Variant Covers By Artgerm

Marvel's First Family is back and I for one couldn't be happier. The genius of the Fantastic Four is that their comic is not a superhero comic, it's a monster comic and they are essentially a family of monsters. The Thing may feel like a monster but he is not hated and feared like the X-Men are.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did awesome monster comics long before Marvel hit gold with their superhero characters in the early 60s like the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and The X-Men.  If I had only one choice of those titles on my grocery store's spinner rack I always went for the Fantastic Four. The covers always promised great superhero adventures that span the entire Universe.

I now have really high hope for a great Fantastic Four movie set in the 60s during the Cold War. You can make it an origin story and make the Mole Man the main villain as it was back then. You can always introduce DOOM in the sequel and make the FF the stars of the Marvel Universe in this next phase in much the same way that the Avengers have lead this first ten years of Marvel movies.

Fantastic Four movies have sucked so far because the scripts were superficial. There needs to be a much greater emphasis on angst and the tragedy of their story. That's what makes the MCU successful.

Yep. One guy convinced his only three friends to steal a rocket because he lost his funding and the result was that those closest to him were turned into monsters. He has a lot of guilt that he needs to forgive himself for before they can forgive him and they can become a team. After all, they went with him to take that rocket into space. See. I can write it in my sleep.
