'The Thing' Trailer

I am a huge fan of both previous versions of this story. This movie is a totally unnecessary project that I will nevertheless watch the hell out of when it's released. I just like what I like. I hope this is not a shot for shot remake of the John Carpenter classic. I would like a surprise or two. Happy to see the music hasn't changed much.

Kal as I understand it this is going to be a "prequel" to Carpenters film covering the events at the Norwegian base (where the The Thing was first unearthed). So it will no doubt end with the crew chasing the dog across the ice trying to kill it. So chances of a shot-for-shot remake are small. However chances for a happy ending are not good. Not good at all.

I must be sniffing too much glue again. I saw a dog chewing on the chain fence and had a John Carpenter flashback. I like the chances for a bleak ending though. Happy endings are overrated.

hell, yes, I'll be seeing that! I love both of the previous films, and I can live with another. who made this, though? is it Carpenter, or someone else, at the reins?

ah, who cares? bring it on!

Looking forward to it, but I hope it's not just a 'throw a pretty girl in it and shoot it in really fast camera cuts', just like about every other film nowadays. My parents took us to the drive-in to see the first version back in '56, second of a double feature. I don't remember the first movie, but the Thing set me on a course of loving science fiction for the rest of my life.
I did hear the Carpenter music at the end of the trailer. Cripes, I hope it's a good one.

I just let my thirteen yr old son watch Carpenter's a few weeks back.
He loved it.

If they threw Rob Bottin into the mix - then just maybe.... but I'm sure it will be once again mostly overused CGI...

Still plan on seeing it though!

Has your son seen 'Escape From New York'? Another Carpenter classic. High concept + full retard execution - that is John Carpenter to me. I find his synth music to be hypnotic and as entertaining as his pictures.

Nothing can beat Carpenter's version, and this trailer looks like it almost the exact same movie.

The Thing was based on the short story "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, Jr. You can find the text of the story here:

Escape is great...as is most of Carpenters early work!

Adrienne Barbeau was always a plus.
