Favorite Cartoon Girls Of The 80s - Day Five - April O'Neil - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

April O'Neil is a local television reporter for Channel 6 news who focuses on getting the story right and exclusively. As she runs into crime first hand one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles steps in to save April and befriend her. The turtles even stay at April's apartment temporarily after their own home is destroyed by the evil Foot Clan.

With a passion for getting the story April often likes to get things done before she meets the turtles. Afterwards she is often in between the woman in distress and needing to be saved and the woman who is fighting along side the heroes. She usually butts head with her bosses at the news station for focusing too much on crime and the "mysterious" heroes who save the citizens of New York.

She is usually seen wearing something akin to a yellow jumpsuit and drives around in a news van, which in some iterations the turtles copy for their own ride.

April's probably going to be one of the few characters I actually know from this theme. It also helps that unlike some of the others, shes had many, very different iterations over time. In the original cartoon she started out as Faux-is Lane, then upgraded full martial artist in the 2003 series, taking on a Tomb Raider/Kill Bill look for the animated movie. Now she's younger and scrappier and a lot feistier.

She's as much a part of the Mythos as the Turtles themselves. Taking away April is like taking away Splinter.
