Good News Indeed

According to Deadline, Twentieth Century Fox has begun negotiations with James Mangold to return to direct a follow up to The Wolverine, with Hugh Jackman on board to reprise the titular character for an unprecedented seventh time. We had assumed that Jackman's role in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past might mark the actor's final appearance as the adamantium enhanced mutant, but that was before The Wolverine did so well at the Box Office -- the movie currently sits on $413 million worldwide. The story it would follow is said to be under wraps, but apparently Mangold is making a deal to write the treatment, with Lauren Shuler Donner producing. Most fans were very happy with The Wolverine, so I can't see too many having a problem with this news.

I wish I could like these comic movies as much as you like them. The lastest Wolverine movie left me very unimpressed. They took one of the best Wolverine stories ever written and decided that they would change it. Why? I just do not get it. If you are going to change a great story at least make it better.

Still waiting for the next Sin City, because that's how you do a source material justice.

I am just so happy Jo do see a superhero movie that looks good and at least tries to capture the character I know. I remember a time when The Captain American movie was a piece of crap starring Reb Brown. Yikes. And any Spider-Man movie made before the effects were ready for him would have been a waste of time. I have a very low bar for these movies because I am overjoyed just to have an Avengers movie to watch...ANY Avengers movie.

I hear you, and I want to like these movies more than I do , but most of them just leave me wanting more. Marvel has done am admirable job with many of their movies these past few years, but few of them really stand out for me. Like I think I've said before, I still need a good story to take me into another world and convincingly keep me there. And when it's a movie or tv show based on the comics that I grew up on, well my bar seems to be quite high (no disrespect to your bar please understand). Luckily I have kids to take to these movies and they love them, so their enjoyment does rub off on me. But it does warm my heart when my Walking Dead, Y the Last Man, and Transmetropolitan comics give them more enjoyment then a super hero Hollywood movie.

Y the Last Man should be the next property that some Cable giant takes on. Fantastic comic book story that wrapped up in the neatest way I could have imagined.

It must be cool to have kids to share these kind of geek things with. I always look at parents of the kids I taught who 'got it' with more respect just because they weren't afraid to let their kids know that they themselves love 'childish' things.

That's where so many parents get it wrong, assuming that comics and the such are "childish" and "geeky". I went from Archie to The Savage Sword of Conan to Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, to Omni to Dostoevsky. Then I turned 18. Nothing wrong with that progression of fine literature. I'm just glad my kids enjoy reading, whatever it is they pick up.

ah, the Gray Mouser. I loved the Mignola graphic novel.
