Alien Target Practice? I know "Star Wars" set the movie merchandise movement on fire, but was it common for every sci-fi movie to have tie-in toys? I can't imagine the collector market existed in the '70s the way it did now and given the reactions to the Django action figures last year, I can only imagine up in arm parents from over thirty years ago.

I was twenty-nine when Alien came out and had a bunch of merchandise in the stores and I don't remember any parents thinking much of it. The Kenner Alien toy is still a prized item in anyone's collection. People seemed less twisted up about stuff back then. I would like to have a Screaming Mee Mee pistol, whatever that is.

As a lad, that G.I. Joe aircraft carrier was the ultimate prize. I had the planes and a lot of the action figures, but that ship was huge. I wanted it and still want it.

People back then were more concerned with getting lawn darts off the shelves than monster toys.

I don't even collect GI JOE figures that size and I want that aircraft carrier. That would fill an entire playroom.
