He Is One Busy Man

I listen to Alan Colme's radio program most nights online and the radio station I pick up repeats the same stupid commercials a hundred times a night. I have them all burned in my brain especially a feature they call 'The Fifty Songs of Freedom' highlighting songs that mention each of the fifty states. Of course 'Midnight Train To Georgia' by Gladys Knight and the Pips represents Georgia and this following song by David Allen Coe is for West Virginia. I kinda dig its bluesy vibe and needed to find the words to follow it. It goes faster than 'We Didn't Start The Fire' by Billy Joel.

i can plow a field of forty acres
feed the chickens, feed the hogs
fix the drain pipe, pick the guitar
and never loose no time.
mow the grass, prune the peach trees
fix that window broken by that kid o mine
still find the time of an evenin to go fishin on the river
put a fence round my land
read a story to my baby im a west virginia man

chorus
i work in the coal mine 8 hours a day
eat supper
read the paper
put up 100 bails of hay
run off a batch of moonshine, relax next to the fan
chew tobacco, sing a fine song i'm a west virgina man

i can heard 100 head of cattle, chop the fire wood,
shoe the horses, paint the barn,
patch the roof to make sure it won't leak
pick the beans, throw some hay seeds
check the muskrat traps down by the creek
before it gets late i can pick a pack of apple that my woman will fry
take my youngest son out huntin im a west virgina man
