Batgirl And Nightwing - Parallel Lives
I would love to see that first picture inspire a new comic series of a time back when Barbara Gorden and Dick Grayson were attending the same high class private school by day and being Robin and Batgirl at night.
They would really like each other during the day and never realize the secret identity the other one had. I know they are both to be such great detectives but go with me on this one. At night they have all kinds of squabbles like brother and sister (of the Bat). They are critical and jealous of each other
The morning after one did something to piss of the other would be a hoot to read. For example - Dick would be talking about this pushy girl with too much to prove and Barbara would have no idea he was talking about her and vice versa. She would have issues with his attitude of entitlement - like only HE can be Batman's partner. They were doing quite fine as the 'Dynamic Duo' before she came along.
Now, of COURSE, Batman would know both secret identifies but not tell one about the other. They would be completely self absorbed as Robin and Batgirl as they both try to live up to Batman's expectations. As he would tell Alfred, "A little insecurity and competition never hurt anyone".
I would suspect that as a boy hero Robin did suffer from over confidence and invincibility. Jason Todd had that trait as does new Robin Damien Wayne. It just something that is bred into the character who works along side a great hero like Batman. It gave Dick street cred amongst the other heroes because they knew that Batman would not choose ANY kid to be his sidekick. In fact, knowing him as they do, they would bristle at the notion of there even BEING a Robin.
You could do stories set in that time and stories the recall a certain memory or event that they both shared. You could show the grown up couple laughing about the stupid things they did together as kids. I would be like bonding with an old friend over past shared experience.
Yup, looks like my batting average for great comic and movie ideas it still at 100 percent. I really need to submit this idea to DC. You think someone would read it if I scripted or plotted a story arc? No, probably not (said in Eeyore's voice).
