Mortal Engines - First Trailer

The setting looks absoltely amazing. Like no concept I even considered in my own head and that is saying something. I do kinda hate that the story looks like every hero quest I have ever seen in a thousand other movies that did not look at beautiful as this one does. I hope I am wrong. I hope this spawns a whole new franchise with interesting characters for me to cheer for and love. Just please don't be another Valerian. Anything but Valerian. Peter Jackson is a great visual filmaker but sometimes he get's a little sloppy with his storytelling even when he has a beloved novel to guide his filming. That long rambling stuff between the spectacle works for Lord of the Rings but not the Hobbit and certainly not this concept. I will remain hopeful because this looks like something I could invest my interest and love in.

Another gem from the HERO PRESS. I am telling you guys. Put it on your visit list, especially you magnificent bastards from Portugal. He is one of most valued sources of all things cool and to me that is worth it's weight in Spice. I only steal from the best.

I have not read the book but I have it. I read The Hunger Games before I saw the movie and that made it a better film experience and I think this movie might benefit from that same treatment.

Thank you for the kind words, Cal, but also for giving this film a chance.

As you may have gathered I love the source material, the books have been a major part of my life since I stumbled upon the first one in WH Smiths' in the early 2000s.

Since then I have been honoured to be able to call the author, Philip Reeve, a friend. He reached out to me because of my coverage of his books on HeroPress, and we've stayed in touch ever since.

Not only do I want this movie to be the magnificent hit that I think it should be because of my admiration for the novel, but also because the author is such a lovely man and he deserves recognition for his incredible work.

And, also, if the movie is a runaway blockbuster, there are three more novels in this cycle to adapt, then three prequel novels (about how the cities became mobile), which are equally wonderful and cinematic in their breadth.

Again, I love the cast and the visuals. I just want it to be extraordinary because it has such a great pedigree with all the people involved. That is so cool that you know the author. Joe Jusko block me because I captioned his cat.
