Be Honest With Me

Has anyone ever had a cake that actually looks like this? The double layer and the thick wavy icing? I don't mean one that was bought from a store but one made at home using the two mix boxes and the canned icing they sell you in the grocery store. I am gonna make one over the next couple of days. I wonder how close to this picture it will look like. I will share the pictures as I go.

I've totally made something like that. Don't worry about using cake mix. It totally works. You might have an issue with the canned frosting though since its so think. Scoop it out and beat with a mixer first and you should be good to go.

My daughter used to make cakes like this a lot..with very few failures.. then the stove broke and I got a new one, we never got another good cake. I never realised a stove could make that much difference. My long dead nan used a wood fired stove her whole life and her cakes were the best! Youve got a hard act to follow my friend

I made a cake like that once, but mine was from a cookbook.

canned icing never fluffs for me. But I'm not too fussy about what the cake looks like, taste is way more important

I look forward to seeing how you do. No one in my family really likes the overly chocolate cake so I usually make ones with homemade raspberry icing or marzipan.

Sounds like you doubt my skills T.S. Oh how little you truly know. I was making cupcakes when you were "sucking on your momma's teet at Woodstock."

"Damn it Jim I'm a doctor not a baker." Or I'm a chef not a baker but I would make my own butter cream frosting if you want that look.

I was actually searching for some icing recipes today. I am committed to make this look good.
