I Have Figured Out How To Make Schools Safer From Gun Violence

Set up the hallways of schools like they are in this opening to the TV program Get Smart. The doors can be opened and closed quickly or shut down permanently if the x-ray machines in the office spot a person trying to enter the building with weapons or peanut butter sammiches. I say put up some grant money so some mad scientist can come up with something similar. We could also electrify the floors of the hallways if someone is walking around who shouldn't be. One push of a button and instant BBQ. Can't someone think outside the box for once.

You know who is also good at thinking outside the box?

People who want to commit mass murder.

In 1995, Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people in Oklahoma City, including 19 children under the age of 6. He injured more than 680 other people.

What was the "high capacity magazine" he used? Whay type of "Assault Weapon" was his choice?

He used a truck filled with a home made version of AMFO. Instructions are readily available online. The total cost for making such a weapon is less than the current price for two top of the line Evil Guns - assuming you don't just steal the materials to begin with.

Okay you win. Keep you guns. Lead the revolution against your government when the tanks roll down the streets.

Ah, the 'But you can kill with other stuff!' argument. Why am I not surprised to see it here...oh right. Because Paladin's commenting.

I use that argument, because its a pretty good one. The argument is being made that doubling down on another layer of gun laws - most of which will be completely ignored by criminals - is the answer.

I'm simply saying that if someone wants to kill lots of people, they will kill lots of people. Passing the AWB or any other gun law may make you feel safe, but you won't be any safer.

I don't have the answer to a peaceful, violence free world. Likewise, I don't play the violin worth a crap.

I am perfectly capable of discerning when someone else can't play it either, though.

Yah. There's always someone who did something else bad, so it's OK.

Johnson's notion at least has a chance of making this a safer country. Scary, I bet.
