OH THE HORROR to combine Victorian design with the octopus look. This is why we need our steampunk Nautilus to control the scourge. Thanks to Micheal May for the original comic post.

Mars Attacks!
Mars Attacks Topps ~ 1962 Artwork by Norman Saunders & Bob Powell
These are some fantastic painted cards from Topps in the early 1960s that were used as inspriation for the cool Tim Burton movie in the 90s. Check out the whole series here...

Toy Haven Rocks
My buddy at Toy Haven does some of the best action figure photography out there. I so totally want this Deep Sea Diver from the GI Joe collection. I had the original one in the 70s and it came with an octopus that you could abuse in the tub. This one comes with a giant eel because for some reason its not PC anymore to abuse the sissly cephalopod. But just check these out. Looking all over for this bad boy.

Best Munny Ever!
Althought I am intriqued by the whole custom figure movement I can't usualy get around weirdly shaped characters we already know and love with equally bizarre paint jobs. However, this one works for me. Like the plush Frank I already have, this munny is a cute example of the demonic Frank from the 'Donnie Darko' film.
Iron Chef Octopus Battle
Sometimes you know you are just living right. You have a birthday tomorrow which basically means that the entire world will shift focus from their petty problems and pause momentarily to truly appreciate the way that you have defended the world and saved us all from the various terrestrial and interterrestrial menaces that could have doomed us at anytime. AND there will be cake! Then out of the blue you see an episode of the great Food Network show IRON CHEF where the theme ingredient is live octopus and you get to see them minced, sliced and diced while still alive. Its was the feel good moment of the year. Do you SEEEE how the tentacles STILL MOVE when they are fully detatched from the body? That is not normal for anything not possessed. They are the zombies of fish. Hard to change color and hide in a SOUP isn't it buddy? The only thing that would make this better would be if my mail order bride from the Ukrain arrives without postage due and actually alive in the box this time. Next time - air holes.
And for those of your bleeding hearts out there who eat your burgers and KFC where the animals are taken out in much more gruesome ways remember that if it was between you and an octopus he would have you in the stew pot so quick. If I needed another visual way to show you the truth of my point check out this image by the great Wally Wood from Booksteve's site.

Iron Sky and Mercury Men
I would totally watch both of these. Seems to be made using the same technology that went into my beloved 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow'. Nazis on the moon? Serialized cliff hangers? Its a couple of high concept no brainers.

Bully for Bully
Now I am the kind of person who goes to the rodeo and cheers for the bull. I always like to see the rodeo bull's stats going in. Like how many cowbys got OWNED by a ton of some snarling engine of destruction. Gots me no respect either for fairy pants matadors in sparkly bolero outfit at the bullfights. So that makes this moment all the more sweet. Click the box to see the video.

Matador Violently Gored by Bull Over and Over |
Disturbing video of matador Israel Lancho being gored over and over by an angry bull. Apparently the bull supports Palestine. |
Cutest Mug Shot of the Week
From Smoking Gun. Now what crime could this sweet girl have possibly committed? Maybe she is in jail for robbery cause she stole my heart. OMG..I actually wrote that. Big Daddy can still charm the ladies.
This is Pretty Much the Way I Figured Things Were Like on the Ark
Damn boat didn't steer itself. I know I have talked about how stupid I think the whole Noah's Ark story is. Now I have proff that Noah was running some kind of galley slave boat. He probably charged the animals for their lodging and food all the while exploiting their labour. Capitalist Swine! Probably didn't give them dental either.

Die Phantom Der Oper
I am not ashamed to admit that I LOVE the movie 'Phantom of the Opera' based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical which I have seen three times. Gerald Butler and the beautiful Emily Rossum are the perfect Christine and Phantom for my tastes. I downloaded the movie to replace the version I accidentally deleted and it was the GERMAN edition. So being the adverturous soul I am I watched the german movie knowing all the enlish lines and songs and it was DAMN COOL to see the songs sung in another language with the german subtitles. Not that this will become a habit cause German is not the prettiest language out there - and I feel the same about my native Ukrianian so its not a slight on the fine German people. I lived in Germany for five years as a military kid and love the German people and culture - if only they wouldn't loose their fricken minds twice every century all would be good. Try not to be caught up in the beauty and romance of this part of the movie. She is so beautiful.
Mad Margins
Often the best thing about Mad Magazine was the artwork in the margins by Sergio Aragones. The man knew how to write and draw a one panel gag like no one else. Here are 500 of them for the magazine's five hundredth issue. Not the same magazine I enjoyed as a kid because you couldn't match the early Mads with great artists like Aragones, Don Martin, Al Jaffe, Harvey Kurtzman, Wally Wood, Jack Davis, Jon Severin and Dave Berg. I get most of my distrust of politics and the media from the lampooning they got in Mad which is the magazine's greatest and most important legacy.

I WANT I WANT I WANT
Nothing portrays energy in comics like the famous 'Kirby Dots' or 'Kirby Krackle'. Like everything else the man did this tecnique is genius.
Comic Cover of the Week
Got me some mad love for the great Marvel comic 'Gaurdians of the Galaxy' Its got a huge cosmic cast and while involved in the 'War of Kings' storyline we get not only the Shiar Imperial Gaurd but the Royal Family of the Inhumans also. That is some rich cosmic goodness. When I see the cover to next issue I get a tingle of delite to see Cosmo the telepathic Soviet space dog and Rocket Racoon ready to bitch slap whomever gets in their way.
Captain Action Statue
I am a huge fan of the Captain Action action figure and have all the ones that Playing Mantis reissued a few years ago. So of course I have to have this to add to my collection. I love the way that all the masks that he can take on to complete his disquises are along the base.
The Mind of an Eight Year Old
I can't believe I didn't think of is first. Only the greatest idea for a move EVER!!!
All You Need To Know About Torture.
Suck on this Dick Cheney. You think the more you explain the need for torture the more people you will bring to your side. I think you will be the most surprised when justice finds you for all the evil you have done. Don't worry though. I am sure your cell mate will share his cookies with you.
"Ali Soufan, a former FBI interrogator, revealed in an article being released in June that Osama Bin Laden's bodyguard opened up about the 9/11 terror attacks only after being offered -- sugar free cookies. Bin Laden lieutenant Abu Jandal is a diabetic, Soufan said, and wouldn't eat sugar cookies he'd been offered. "Soufan noticed that he didn't touch any of the cookies that had been served with tea: 'He was a diabetic and couldn't eat anything with sugar in it,' Time's Bobby Ghosh wrote. "At their next meeting, the Americans brought him some sugar-free cookies, a gesture that took the edge off Abu Jandal's angry demeanor. "We had showed him respect, and we had done this nice thing for him," Soufan told Ghosh. "So he started talking to us instead of giving us lectures..." "It took more questioning, and some interrogators' sleight of hand, before the Yemeni gave up a wealth of information about al-Qaeda -- including the identities of seven of the 9/11 bombers -- but the cookies were the turning point," Ghosh writes.
"After that, he could no longer think of us as evil Americans," Soufan said. "Now he was thinking of us as human beings."

I So Love Her
Oh I have the hugest crush on Christina Hendricks from 'Mad Men'. Redhead and more beautiful than any woman has the right to be. I want her to know that her life will only improve with me as her bunwich. Yes 'BUNWICH' bitches. Get over it!
