I come from a strange strange people. My people are Slovak, mostly Ukrainian/Polish from the fertile planes where the Cossack people once roamed free. The other half are East Coast lobster fishermen. They also developed some weird traditions that can only originate from the half crazed maniacs I descend from.
My mother asked me to looked up something for her on the Internets - something called a BUTTER LAMB. Apparently in the weird cult that is the Catholic religion, they shape lambs made out of butter at Easter. Who knew?
We just colored eggs as kids. No making farm animals out of dairy. That was more a Canada Day tradition. What they do with said lamb after completing the project I haven't discovered. I suspect it's just a centerpiece and I know if I butter my bun with butter from that lamb that Baba will have a fit.
You would have to really be careful with the temperature of the butter, not having it too cold or it will all just splinter when you work with it. My god, I am thinking about it, the steps that would go into actually making one of these abominations.
Creating one of these things looks just like I thought it would. I am fascinated by the process of design so of course I had to share this video with you. It's best the flip to the end to see the end result. Bizarre.
Okay now I have done it to myself. I showed my Mother some pictures of these butter lambs, which apparently go into Easter baskets to be blessed, and she made that noise that women make when they see a baby. She now wants me to make one up fancy like these examples so she can really WOW the girls at the church.
So now I am making butter lambs. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
