More Gun Opinion To Poke At The Armed Bear

I love the second sign. It looks like something you would see on the biathalon track not the school playground. Will old retirees be patrolling along the fence perimeter in case of another incident? I think we take out the middle man and just arm all the kids. But they have to keep their ammunition in their lunchboxes during school hours. Better safe than sorry, right?

Anyone who thinks that teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons is a fucking idiot. Putting aside the inevitable, how much shit is stolen from schools? From teachers? You want to add guns to that mix? How quickly will a school be shot up by a student stealing a handgun from a teacher? Maybe that’s the price to pay in blood to make sure a kindergarten teacher is armed and ready.

Anyone who thinks that they should own assault rifles because the government might need to be confronted is mentally ill and should be treated as such. (Do you know how quickly the military could vaporize you if it really wanted to? Your AR-15 ain’t gonna stop a drone, but, hey, it’ll make for funny video for the soldiers back at Fort Collins.) Anyone who thinks they should own assault rifles because they’re fun to fire and, gosh, it’s just a hobby should be ignored because they fetishize the act of shooting like someone who gets off huffing sweaty shoes. In fact, let’s just say that anyone who believes individuals should own assault weapons is out of the discussion because there is no rational reason for it.

Seeing as how my mother is a teacher and has a new story everyday about how kids are digging around in her desk drawers when they are not to, and have been disciplined for doing so, and yet continue to do it. This does not inspire confidence in the notion of keeping firearms in a classrooms. I'd just as soon let the stapler remain the deadliest thing in the room thanks.

Also, training teachers to fend off potential attacks in such a way falls very much in line with "This is not what I signed up for".

Adding firearms to the situation..?

Yeah..., escalation **always** works out well.

More is best. If we think that EVERYONE is packin then no one messes with no one. You get to keep you cake, stop bitching about it. Now where is my sweet pistol? I want one of the derringers that comes out of my sleave. No, I want TWO.

Last week it was harping gun control and 'kissing my gun', now it's 'more the better'..?

"...okay..."

Gotta love all these multiple personalities, eh Paladin..?

A school district here in Texas has had armed teachers in the classroom for the past 4 years. Its voluntary, they have to complete concealed carry training like I have, they have to undergo additional training on top of that, carry frangible rounds only, and be approved by the school board.

I guess they weren't aware that all teachers must be irresponsible idiots. Thank goodness there weren't any trained and armed teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary. Someone might have gotten hurt.

I guess whatever moron wrote the last part you quoted isn't aware of any armed resistance to tyranny in the history of the world - including the one that founded the United States.

Where the hell is the tyranny? There is no tyranny.

My mistake. Everyone lives in peace and harmony with their benevolent government all over the world and always have.

Well not in Ploughkeepsie or Walla Walla there aren't.

"The Government" isn't just some faceless institution. It is made up of human beings, most of whom are just putting in a nine to five workday like anyone else. Some may be your neighbors or even friends.

Granted, it has it's share of bastards, even up here.

tengeckoes - No argument there. I work for the Government, myself - albeit at the level of a City Government and not Federal. People working in Government aren't any different from anyone else.

That being said - I don't accept the "Hey, I'm just doing my job" excuse for government over-reach and tyranny, be it of the hard or soft variety. That type of thinking has been used to excuse all sorts of repugnant acts on the part of individuals.

I'm with you on that, Paladin. Our current bunch have been brazenly abusing their position to push their personal or party agendas. Fortunately, we do have some citizens who are standing up and calling them on it.
