To Further Make My Point

Precisely. And we don't think twice about registering our cars. Why do people get all bent out of shape about registering their guns? Makes no sense to me.

Because the government will know how many guns you have and you will have nothing to fight them with when they come for you...of course.

Cal - I know you mean that mockingly - but you're precisely correct. When there are many people who would love to ban guns and ammunition, completely, I'd be insane to voluntarily submit to registration of any sort.

As for armed resistance to a potential gun seizure... I'll cross that bridge if I come to it. I do know there are some otherwise law abiding people who wouldn't quail from such when faced with it.

Lots and lots of them.

Debra - I can try to explain my problem with it. To start with, I'm not in favor of the stupid antihistamine tracking program myself. Its a government intrusion into peoples lives when they buy a legal product. Its pretty useless anyway, since most meth made from antihistamines isn't purchased - its stolen. Some genius decided this was something they could do to combat the drug problem, though, and we all know how important it is to look like we're doing something.

As to ammo registration/limits and curious police in general:

I shoot. A lot. So does my wife. I don't go to the store and buy one box of ammo every six months. I buy in larger quantities because its cheaper and more convenient and its LEGAL. Sometimes I buy locally and sometimes I buy via the net. You would crap yourself if you saw the amount of ammo I may have on hand at any one time.

And I'm a lightweight compared to a lot of the people that I'm friends with.

I'm 48 years old. I obey the law. I've been married for 25 years and my granddaughter turned 4 years old last weekend. I've spent 50 hours a week for the past 17 years working the field of Humane Law Enforcement protecting people and animals. I've never hurt anyone that didn't seriously earn it.

I am not a criminal.

I won't tolerate being treated like one.

I bet you don't give the government any census info either, eh?

I'm happy to provide the information required by the Constitution: Who I am. Count me.

When they send out the American Community Survey I don't participate because the questions are none of their business. Why does the Government need to know how many bathrooms I have, what my mortage payment was if I have one, and how far I have to drive to work?... unless it is to gather data for more government plans to intrude in my life?

I don't intend to tell them how many bowel movements I have in a day either :)

I'll ask you a question, Debra, since I've answered a couple of yours: I'm assuming you live in the US. Forgive me if I am wrong.

If you do, can you name three areas of your life where the Government doesn't have a direct influence? Just three areas where it doesn't try to exert some sort of limitation or control?

Most people I've asked can't name even one.

Don't fall for it Debra. We Canadians have little to complain about because we realize that government is a helpful thing to have around.

A question for you both: You have the magical ability to enact every single one of those limits in the graphic for ammunition purchases... how would that have stopped the guy from killing the kids?

Based on current info, the guns were licensed. He stole them from his mother along with the ammo. Its unknown how many rounds he fired at this point, but we know it was some number over 20 since thats how many people he killed and some were shot more than once.

A typical box of rifle ammo has 20 rounds in it. Typical pistol ammo comes 50 in a box. Even if he had bought his own ammo he only would have needed one or two boxes to kill the kids and teachers.

Pass every law on ammo listed in the innane graphic and the only person you affect is people like me. You'll *feel* safer but it won't affect anything.

Period.

And Cal... I'll have a blog post of my own coming soon regarding the "success" of Canada's Government keeping you safe from gun violence. You'll enjoy it, if you read it :)
