SNL Returns With Jennifer Lawrence

When Jennifer Lawrence does her first SNL it had better be magic. I would hate to see her crash now that she is flying high. She is so great in interviews and such a natural comedian that SNL is a perfect fit for her and she was certainly game last night. Her performance was often laugh out loud funny. SNL? What the hell. Could you be getting BETTER?

Sure she ranted like a crazy girl against her competitors in this year's Oscar race. If anything she gave the entertainment industry a story thread to follow. Lawrence was once a lock for the best actress Oscar but I have a feeling she could get slapped by the Academy for being a bit of a brat.

The Lumineers did their big hit and as many times as I heard that song this was the version I like the most. They have a fun presentation. Fresh. I know I am late to the game with this group but forgive me...I am not as hip as I used to be.

Highlights for me:

Brenda the psycho waitress. Jimmy Moynihan's fear was real.

Jimmy Moynihan was energetic and funny all night He played a character in most every skit, many with complicated make-up and costume changes. It would kills a normal man.

The rapper girl who couldn't get her rhymes quite right. Jennifer kept her energy high throughout.

Bill Hader and his crazy beards. His Tommy Lee Jones during the monologue (thank the gods she didn't sing and dance) was laugh out loud funny.

The second Lumineers song was joyous...simple joyous. - Stubborn Love. That was a cry for love that pulled on my very soul.

Danielle porn movie parody. I watched many of those exact same crappy sex romps back at the beginning of the cable age and I can't get enough of funny voices.

The Civil War 'tip pic' was stupid but they did it just so Bill Hader could be wear another movie beard. It was almost deliberate but ingenious. It got him on the show where he could have the most impact for doing the least amount of comedy.

Where the hell was Kate McKinnon? Except for her dead on impersonation of Jodie Foster she was nowhere to be seen. She is great in most every skit. Maybe her and Lawrence just didn't hit it off, comically.

If you watched it, tell me what you thought.
