Here's My Solution

Have MARVEL make all the DC superhero movies. Compare Batman vs Superman to Captain America - Civil War and you will see what I mean. I have a feeling that the next Justice League movie will be a huge clusterfuck because DC will learn NOTHING from the success of the Marvel movie franchise. I have high hopes for the solo Wonder Woman film but nothing else from DC unless it comes out of their animated films division. Now THAT group should be in charge of the live action films. They know how to tell a good story and story is EVERYTHING.

There are two simple flaws at the heart of DC's movie empire:
(a) they so desperately don't want to be seen as imitating Marvel (and so have gone all dark and serious)
(b) Zack Snyder doesn't get mainstream superheroes (just read any interview with him).

When your tentpole character is Superman (the ultimate expression of positivity and optimism, power-with-restraint, seeing the best in humanity etc), both of these issues are big problems.

You said it all. It IS light vs dark. Nothing in Captain America happened in the dark to cover up the CGI. It made all the difference to my enjoyment of the action.

I read an article recently that said Marvel's secret is that they remember that comics should be, above all else, fun. So there's a mix of light-hearted, snappy humour in their films that DC completely lacks. DC is too serious and dark.
