CANADA 150” TULIP - Presented in Ottawa, May 09, 2016
A new tulip, bred to resemble the Canadian flag to commemorate the upcoming 2017 celebrations, Canada’s official birthday tulip.
“The tulip represents gratitude and the long-standing friendship between Canada and the Netherlands. Blooming in the colours of Canada’s flag, “Canada 150 tulips” will bring both pride and joy to gardens and communities from coast to coast to coast," said His Excellency Cees Kole, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in a news release.
More than 200,000 of the “Canada 150 tulips” will bloom across the National Capital Region this spring. Next year 300,000 will be showcased in the NCC's flower beds, with thousands more expected to be planted in community gardens across Canada.
These look very cool. I would love to plant them in my sad little flower beds. Speaking of which I have a SECOND round of Tulips growing in the back yard. I have no idea what color they will be but it's nice to see that something from last fall managed to bloom. I planted many more bulbs than this because I wanted the area to be flooded with tulips. I bet one in ten bulbs sprouted.

That is one gorgeous tulip! I love tulips *sigh*
Yeh me too. It's always the sign for me that spring/summer is here.
As winter envelopes us her in NZ I now find myself longing for tulips.
How wonderful! I hadn't heard this before -- what a lovely gesture from the Netherlands. And maybe you should try buying your tulip bulbs from a different supplier -- one in ten sprout? That's pretty bad odds.
True. Even the ones we got at our small, local hardware
store had a better percentage of viable bulbs.
That is one gorgeous tulip.
I had a whole box full of mixed bulbs and who knows why only some of them sprouted.
It must be so weird to be freezing in July and boiling in December. That would be fun to experience for a year. Flip the world around.
any one knows what the Latin name is for this beautifull Tulipa?
