Lately I've been watching a marathon of Joss Whedon's "Angel" ,a spinoff his other show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Since "Angel" continued after Firefly was cancelled its was interesting to see how the characters evolved and you can bits of the Serenity crew in Team Angel.

Angel is a bad man struggling to do the right thing no matter how much it hurts. Very stubborn and prone to wrath. Very much like Mal

Cordelia functions as a supportive foil and voice of reason to his many crazy plans. Theres hints of a romantic affection but circumstances get in the way. Sort of a mix of Zoey and Inara.

Gunn sees himself as just "the muscle" but is actually quite intelligent and cunning (so more of the opposite end of Jayne's bell curve)

Fred starts out as a super smart but slightly disturbed waif making her something of a proto-River before settling down. She also had something of a semi "supporting sibling" relationship with Angel very akin to Mal and Kaylee.

Simon had a lot in common with Season 1 Wesley, book smart but nebish and inexperienced. By Season 5 Wes was one of the more tempered and complex characters of the show, I can only imagine how Simon might have grown likewise. Wes grew a beard to signify the darkening of his character. Simon put on a sweater. Huh.

Also there was some actor sharing going on. Gina Torres played the goddess "Jasmine" in Season 4, Adam Baldwin played an attorney in Season 5, Jonathan Woodward aka Private Tracy who got friendly with Kaylee played Knox who got friendly with Fred in Season 5.

Good stuff, I'd recommend it if only the first two seasons weren't so bleeding slow.

That is too funny. I watch Angel everyday on one of the satellite stations. I prefer it to Buffy is so many ways. I really gets great in the later seasons.

Was watching firefly this past week while recovering at home after the hospital. The fiancee said "How many times have you watched those?" I just laughed, She is great in other areas but is so tv-movie deficient.

Tell her that it's a 14 episode mini-series. That always gives it some class.

My daughter discovered the show and we did the marathon over several nights. Unfortunately for me this was last summer while she was home from school during the day. She couldn't wait until I got home from work and kept watching episodes without me.

So now I just have to try and convince the wife to sit and watch them with me.

Women like damaged characters that they can nurture. Try selling it that way. Why do you think it would be difficult for her to get into the show?
