Machete Begins

Its one of those good news stories that we don't hear often enough coming from Hollywood. For decades Danny Trejo has paid his dues and did the bad guy work in many movies. You could always count on him to give you a great performance no matter the material he had to work with. Even as the good uncle in the 'Spy Kids' movies he charmed. That is why I am lovin the story about 'Machete' the 'fake' movie that was shown as a trailer between the 'Grindhouse' movies 'Planet Terror' and 'Deathproof' Now the movie that couldn't be made because director Robert Rodriquez could not get the funding for (because the stars in the movie were not 'big' enough) is going to be made. Its now got more stars in it than the night sky. I choose to look at the reason for that not being the script or the story but the respect that the film community has for ex-convict Trejo - local boy makes good. Its like they are giving him the best backup they can for his chance at movie immortality and maybe a pretty kickass franchise. If you have forgotten or never knew in the first place I have added the trailer to get your anticipation started. You love 'Machete'. You know you do. VIVA MACHETE!

"It started as a joke, but one of the fake trailers from 2008's "Grindhouse" is becoming a real movie. Robert Rodriguez, the director of "Desperado," "Sin City" and the "Spy Kids" trilogy, has begun work on "Machete," which began as a preview that ran before his "Planet Terror" segment of the double-feature he made with Quentin Tarantino. For the full-length movie, Rodriguez has assembled one of the most eclectic casts ever: Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson and Lindsay Lohan. They will join the stars of the original trailer: Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey and Cheech Marin. In the movie, Machete (Trejo), a former Mexican Federales, is hired to assassinate a corrupt senator (De Niro). But then he is double-crossed and pursued by a government agent (Alba). Lohan plays a gun-wielding socialite who comes to Machete's aid, and Seagal plays a drug lord from his past. Filming has already begun in Austin, TX, and it will most likely hit theaters next year."

"Machete" was ALWAYS a kick ass idea and fake trailer. So glad that Robert finally got everything put together to make the movie. Hope Cheech Marin is still in it.

Had an opportunity to very briefly meet him at Comic Con in 2007 (he was hanging out outside the convention). Seemed like a nice, friendly guy. I've always loved his acting, and I'm glad he's finally getting a starring role in something. Definitely deserves it.
