Tekken (2010)

In a future world devastated by war only eight corporations survived. The one controlling North America was called Tekken. We are told that once a year these entities hosted a 'kill or be killed' tournament (The Iron Fist) in the burned out slums called the Anvil. It is televised and is very popular with the viewing audience.

We also learn about an underground group of rebels who live in the slums and are attempting to overthrow Tekken and it's fascist ways.

Essentially this the video game come to life. We get explosions, highly choreographed slow motion fight scenes, a young hero and a beautiful girl fighting for their future, and quick cuts set to a booming rock soundtrack.

A young smuggler enters the tournament not for a 'cause' he wants no part of but to avenge the death of someone that he loves. What follows is one on one fight scenes until all are eliminated by the two we have been waiting to see fight.

You have seen this plot a thousand times before but this film has a fresh cast of unknowns, nice combat scenes and martial art movie mainstay Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa sporting the worse hairstyle in action movie HISTORY.

If you like well done fight scenes then you will like this movie. There are even women in the tournament which is not something you see everyday in movies of this genre. You may think you can tell where the story is going from a mile away but you would be wrong and that places this movie a little higher on the fight movie list.

For me it was a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon while tumbling.

If Paul Phoenix's character was in the movie THAT would have been the worst hairstyle in action movie history.

He wasn't in the movie. So I guess Tagawa wins this time. I wish I could find the picture of his character - he plays the head Tekken guy.

I know who he is playing... he has a bald head and his hair at the sides sticks out cartoonishly.
