Cool Soviet Era Artwork

Sure they were batshit crazy and had no toilet paper, blue jeans or bubble gum but boy the old Soviet Union could produce some awesome artwork. When everything is created to glorify the state you get some great, dynamic images coming out of the gulags. These magazine covers would be great to see in the West when you actually had CHOICES about what magazine to buy and a cover really sold the issue but who am I to criticize? How crappy must it have been to see a great cover image then find out that the inside of the magazine contained the same tired 'worker good, capitalist exploiter of worker bad' propaganda. I guess all that was left was to get hammered on that cheap vodka and wait for Perestroika.

Deadman

"Variety is reporting Guillermo del Toro will be producing an adaptation of DC Comics' Deadman for Warner Bros. Originally created in 1967 by Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino, trapeze artist Boston Brand was granted the power to possess any living being by the goddess Rama Kushna after he was murdered. He's been on a constant quest for his killer and eternal peace ever since."

I was totally jazzed to read this blurb the other day. Deadman has been one of my favorite characters for a long time and his costume is elegant in its simplicity. The story is a good one and with del Toro producing we know that he will be able to influence the look of the picture and in something like this, LOOK is everything.

Suck On This Octopus

Just so you know, we have had much success with our cat aquanaut program. Check out how one of our undersea warriors just RELAXES after a hard day's training. The only thing he loves more than a cool dip is a feast of tentacles WITH dip.

Fridays With Milla

Also Saturdays to Thursdays. Sigh. Wow, why can't SHE be the next Catwoman? She's got the action hero cred and doesn't have those mutated toe thumbs like Megan Fox does. Plus, check out those cat eyes. Sighs again.

Sillof's Workshop

Of all the customizers out there, Sillof is the best of them. Its a combination of love for the characters with superior technique and imagination. The guy even makes freakin' amazing diorama's. This one of Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum is brilliant. I especially like the steampunk superheroes and the 'Dune' figures he has created. If you like custom action figures, do yourself a favor and check out his site.

Cat Free Day On The Internet 09/09/09

As the rebel that I am (and I AM a rebel like Johnny Yuma was a rebel) I have to disavow myself from this crazy group. First its the end of the LOL Cats and then what happens? These maniacs determine that there are not enough support for the Cephalopod agenda? I saw some tentacles in the background when they made this speech so I am suspicious of their true goals. They know that the kitties can sense the presence of evil be it mummy or octopus and therefore need to destroy our early warning system. Well NOT ME BITCHES!! I got your back Admiral Fluffy. VIVA EL GATO!!!!

I Think I Am In Love

It is great the way the woman got off the ride and went all screechy and crazy on that cephalopod. You go girl. And what is Mr Tentacles gonna say? "I didn't do nuttin to nobody?" Thats right. He can't say anything. He just has to sit there and take it. Welcome to dry land buddy. Where are the next ten photos off that roll? One at least have to have her burying her foot into that bulby head.

Awkward Family Photo Of The Week

Does anyone else feel sad for that poor little spud seated on the low box? What the hell did he do that was so bad that they wanted his shame and low status to be forever captured on film. This also doubles as the 'Saddest Christmas Card Ever'.

More Images From The Tentacle Wars

I am confronted daily with these images of what is happening on the many fronts in the Tentacle Wars. I share the horror with you so that you will see the truth and join the struggle. Its all about the media with these boneless buttheads. Don't drink the Kool-Aid. You never know what has stirred it. Viva Dry Landers!!!!

DDB Brazil Should Burn In Hell

Earlier this week I posted about an advertisement by DDB Brazil that equated the deaths at 9/11 to the deaths during the 2005 Tsunami. Well as if to add insult to injury they have created a commercial to go with that print add. If you are okay with seeing the event dramatized then look. I know I found myself more angry than informed. There really are some events that you just don't make your point with. Well isn't that a bitch. Pulled because of copyright? Pulled because of conscience? I need to find another copy so you all can see and you should see. Unbelieveable. Everyone follow this link to see this commercial.

My Favorite Tumblrs

Tumblrs are the best. There is just something about the personality contained within the choices some of my favorite bloggers make. They are collecting images to share with all of us and much like their blogs there is often real insight to be found if not down right perversions - many which I share. Not a day passes for me when I don't feel the overwhelming urge to nic a pic here or there. If I missed your tumblr I would love a shout out so I can check out your contribution to the genre. Perhaps you too posted something I deem worthy of taking for my lists of images posted under the title "From the Files of the Cave of Cool". If I did 'borrow' from you please know that I hold your choices and you yourself in the highest respect.

Eve Mylers

I was lucky enough to get advice from a good friend of mine to take a chance on 'Torchwood'. I discovered great storytelling and fantastic realistic characters, none more so that Gwen played by Welsh actress Eve Mylers. She was the heart of the show who always had to balance work and the strangeness she was exposed to with trying to remain the loving girlfriend to Reece, her unknowing boyfriend. Eventually, after he had been exposed to one of Torchwood's adventures, she decided not to have his mind erased and trusted him enough, loved him enough to bring him into her world. Even before that moment I had already fallen in love with her. She is a right real "lass" on that show and I can't resist the cute gap in her teeth. I so love the British programming where the prerequisite for a starring role is not being a 'size 0' Fuck That. I want real women and none seem more real and adorable than Eve. If you haven't seen 'Torchwood' its time for you to get educated.

I Love The CBC

There has been something great about watching the late night movie on CBC this August. If fact this happened every year about this time. You know summer is almost over and the late night hours have to turn into being in bed early when the Godzilla movies finish their run. Tonight its 'Godzilla Returns'. I remember this one specifically from when I was a kid because you could go out to the tent trailer with the small black and white TV and get a perfect picture. The CBC was the one channel you could get anywhere, even camping in the mountains during hockey playoffs. Yup. Summer in Canada is over and the beautiful fall begins.

Leviathan

Trailers for books? WTF? However, I do think I will pick this one up based solely on the subject matter. Steampunk warfare would find me clearly against the 'Darwinists'. As much as I hate me some cephalopods I don't want to see any living thing co-opted into weapons of war. That is one step closer to human cyborgs and that situation never ends well for us 'fleshies'.

This Is Your Classically Damaged Gothic Couple Kids

Just when I figure that there is no possible way that the whole 'Twilight' phenomena can get to me or co-op anything that I find special I see this. How DARE they dare to compare Belle and Edward to the two greatest doomed lovers in literary history. When it comes to moody and damaged its only Catherine and Heathcliffe from Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' that qualify as THE classic Gothic romantic tragic couple. Belle's damaged comes from her selfishness and stupidity while Edward just needs more sun and less twinkle. Posers.

A Quiz To Depress Me On The First Day Of School

You Should Teach Second Grade

You are an excellent communicator and instructor. You would take teaching seriously.

You know how to present a subject in many ways. You are good at coming up with examples.

You are both supportive and challenging. You know when to push, and you know when to praise.

You have a lot of energy, and you don't get discouraged easily. You don't give up on people.

HUH?

Its bad enough I am fighting the endless struggle against the cephalopod but now some crazy artist gives me something new to have nightmares about. The head wrap is bad enough but do I really need to see a face on this guy and only ONE boxing glove? His enemy with the underwater mustache just adds to the creepy factor. That girl is out of luck regardless of who wins her 'affections'. YIKES! This has to be the cover to some music group's latest CD. Thanks to Nicole for finding me this.

The Truth

I love this picture because it shows the truth in several ways. First, girls LIKE to kiss other girls and boys would rather eat a nice cupcake than watch girls kiss. I know, I don't get it either but its the truth.

First Day of School

Tomorrow is the first day of school and I find myself to be rather melancholy about the whole thing. There is something fresh and new and hopeful about the start of a new school year. This is the second year in a row that I find myself on the outside looking in. I made the choice to just sub for awhile and work myself towards a dream assignment but that doesn't make it any easier. What an adventure for the first timers and a sense of comfort and belonging for the older students. For me the real year begins in September. Everything from hobbies to school events start now. Its nicer to be apart of something as opposed to what I am doing now. I am sure the first couple days I get to sub that I will get these blues out of my system but for now...sigh.

Living Mummy

'The Living Mummy' was one of the great comic reads I remember as a kid. Very dynamic covers and a sad character that you kinda hoped would find some peace thought you had no idea how that would ever happen. This got me interested in Egyptian History and especially the technique of mummification.

I Know Many Will Love This

Personally I am depressed that my favorite Smurf, BOOZY SMURF, will more than likely be kept out of this big time CGI production. Lindsay Lohan gets work all the time but they have Boozy on the blacklist. If you could know his pain you would be a drinker too.

WTF and OMG

OMG...can you believe that this is an award winning ad from Brazil. The copy said, " “The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it.” Yikes. That seems a bit cold blooded to me but I guess most of the world feels that enough time has passed and this kind of ad is appropriate. Chilling.
