Piranha 2010

Oh, it wouldn't be summer without 3D creatures going nuts and invading some local lake on the busiest week of the summer. It also helps that said creatures are piranha and they are extra angry and extra 3D. How can I loose?

When we were kids these where the best type of films to see at the lake because there was nothing more fun that to avoid being pushed off the peer on the way home.

But as with all these tales something tends to go wrong with some undersea earth quack event which in tern releases the killer piranha of the title. Then on the busiest weekend of the summer, all hell breaks loose and breaks lose in a Little swirl of foamy/bloody goodness.

OMG - there are naked boobies here. I'm offended, offended I tells ya.

And of course there are two little kids who are being neglected by their cousin and of course that means they will immediately put into piranha danger after the models swim naked around them.


I have to admit that the piranha look especially fearsome and when they start chewing into everyone it's going to be good When the new lake opens up and the young oceanographers have to explore it to their death. I hate that little clicky clicky sound they make just before they swarm you. Never a good sound underwater or on land.

There are several awesome group scenes as boaters try to leave the water while the killer fish are stuck to them. Pretty gruesome. I especially like it when the rich kid tries to boat to freedom but gets stopped by those fleeing the carnage. That's what you get when you try to get away you douchbag and the fish swim through your head.


This is why I don't go in the water - there are things there that swarm you and eat you and swarm you till there is nothing left to eat anymore. Things that live in water just suck.

Of course the mother Sheriff has to save her kids from the stranded boat and then find some way to destroy all the deadly fish.

I liked this one. MY butt was fully tightened all the while they fought the stupid fish, especially the ones that jumped out of the water.


This is a real knuckle biter with some genuinely scary moments if you fear that kind of thing.

Military - Ready To Eat Meals

One of the coolest things about being an army brat was getting my Dad to bring home those pre-packaged daily meal packs. You felt like some post-apocalypse survivor when you had them in your lunch. He could never figure out why we loved them so but we always had them stacked in the pantry.

They had tubed cheese, jam, and peanut butter and the best cracker package in the whole world. Deviled ham was also my favorite and it was the brand named stuff with the paper over the tin can wrapper that we all know.

Today I read an article about the current food provided for American troops and they are not much different from the Canadian ones. I do however, love the little extras packet with Tobasco sauce, Chiclets and toilet paper.

Big Brother UK Finale

I was so happy to see Josie win the UK version of Big Brother. She didn't do it by being sneaky or by scheming behind the back of her fellow housemates (as the winner of the U.S. version will HAVE to do), she did it be being genuine and sweet. She charmed everyone by being a real person who was funny and honest and who I hope now gets all the success that anyone can have coming to them. In a cutthroat world where it's all about how many people you can screw to get to the top and how bad behavior is rewarded with wealth and attention, she stands as the example of the way things SHOULD be.

She won the game and she got the boy (John James). Fabulous.

Now she goes back to compete for ULTIMATE Big Brother with some of the favorite contestants from the past ten years of the show. It doesn't matter about that one. It's a fan thing with people I suspect will be doing nothing but showing off.

I enjoyed this last round. I was more genial and less about conflict than about friendship and competition and I liked the world the housemates constructed for themselves over the summer. If only we could all compromise and see each other the way they did. I dare say the world would be a much better place.

Awesome Brightest Day Poster

This is a beautiful piece of artwork (by Ryan Sook, along with Fernando Pasarin and Joel Gomez) representing the White Lanterns from the current BRIGHTEST DAY storyline. I have been saving up all of these to read them at one shot. Usually Geoff Johns writes these great epic arcs when he is allowed the freedom to do so and I am interested in the characters he has chosen for this part of larger story that started with BLACKEST NIGHT. I miss those days when I was a real comic shop rat because I always was able to score promotional pieces like this.
