Liefeld Reaches The Limits Of His Creativity
Artist: Ed McGuinness and Stephen Platt
Publisher: Awesome Entertainment (1997 & 1998)
Includes: Fighting American #1-2, Fighting American: Rules of the Game #1-3 and Fighting American: Dogs of War #1-3
Clipped from Wikipedia: A two-issue miniseries (August–October 1997) from Awesome Entertainment, written by Rob Liefeld (story) and Jeph Loeb (script), and penciled by Liefeld and Stephen Platt, had originally been produced for the "Heroes Reborn" version of Captain America for Marvel Comics. Here, Fighting American was a retired superhero coping with the death of his partner.
The miniseries came about, Liefeld said in 2007, while he was packaging a Captain America series for Marvel. In early 1997, the company, which had filed for bankruptcy, asked Liefeld to accept lower payment for his studio's work. He refused and was removed from the series. Liefeld called Fighting American co-creator Joe Simon and Roz Kirby, widow of co-creator Jack Kirby, who agreed to license the character to him, but at a price Liefeld would not accept. Liefeld created the similar character Agent America, drawing "maybe three pinups and one poster image", but withdrew the character, he said, when Simon threatened to sue. Liefeld negotiated a new deal for Fighting American, but was then sued by Marvel. During the course of the trial, he said, his version of Fighting American acquired a shield. As one of the terms of the settlement, however, Fighting American was forbidden from throwing his shield like a weapon, to distinguish him from Captain America.
In later comics published by Awesome Entertainment, Fighting American was John Flagg, a former soldier who gained powers through an unspecified experiment "never to be duplicated." A subsequent miniseries, Rules of the Game, written by Loeb with art by Ed McGuinness, reintroduced some of the original Simon & Kirby villains. It was followed by the miniseries Dogs of War, written by Jim Starlin and penciled by Platt. While Awesome was legally prohibited from having him throw the shield, Rules and Dogs showed several additional weapons are built into it, including multiple spike projectiles, a Gatling gun and a mini-missile. This version has also used throwing stars tipped with tranquilizers.
Thanks to the Dork Review for summarizing another reason why the Idiot Liefeld is a cancer on the comic industry and has always been. This Fighting American seem vaguely familiar to another shield carrying hero but I can't put my finger on which one.
I Don't Want To Know What The Hell These Things Are
Don't tell me if you know. I am serious. I don't want to see the efforts of your Google searches. I just couldn't deal. The Banana Splits infuriate me enough and I suspect they have just as lame a back story only a lame foreign back story that I can't understand anyways. When will you maniacs learn??
Oh look, they spelled 'Crackers' in the same funny way a Hillbilly would yet not one of the group is a DUCK! That drummer looks like he takes his afternoon break at 4:20. Why does one of them have a patch? Will we ever know why he or she lost the eye? See, I already have questions. But that doesn't change how lame they look or makes them the least bit interesting.
My End Of The School Year Letter Inspired By Ana Navarro
Ana Navarro tells it like it is. She ripped him a new asshole and I await Trump's reply. She reminds me of an under appreciated part of the Education System that is seldom mentioned and that is the parents who are most often Mothers. Thank you to all the Mothers out there who have spoken to their kid's teacher more than the usual two or three times a year. So if your will forgive the length, this is my end of the year speech to you all as you go off to enjoy the glory that is Summer Vacation.
I would not like Ana Navarro for my Mother but as a teacher she is the type I loved the most. They didn't take any shit and she is the same. This is how you speak to a kid making trouble in class. She chews her kid out and lets me see it in real time.
Most parents meet their child's teacher twice a year. At night. When the school makes time for it and we all sit in the gym like cattle and have that talk about your kid.
I preferred the classroom version because I can show folks my data and when they see why their kid is not doing well they usually just promise to make him do work or they chew them out but in a way that lets me and them know that in their family, being a chatty slacker is not going to fly. Then she would give me her phone number which I wrote next to his name in my mark book so that I could call when he needed a refresher on the smack down she put on him today. I was the last of his teachers she saw that night and she had about had enough. Now I say this not to praise her yelling at her child but she said all she needed to say in about a minute. She took one breath the whole time she was talking to him and he was looking right at her. It had an impact. I only threatened to call the number once. Started to talk to the kid more about things he's into and reward his progress which was significant.
He was a good student because his Mother kept track of these things because she wanted to see who was teaching her child and how her child was evaluated. She wants to see the numbers and records of work done and mark received and that is what will save your ass as a teacher. HARD DATA. Written in INK in a little ledger that includes the raw numbers. Then I always make the offer to let the kid make up all the work that they missed but that offer ended after the weekend. I had all the handouts or page numbers or whatever else they needed to get the work done. Plus is was a pain in the ass that ruined the kid's weekend. Choose the crime. Choose the consequence. Doctor Phil taught me that.
Okay. That was a long rant which I hope no one read. If you are a teacher, thank you for your blood and sweat and youth and sanity. I your are a parent - parent your kid. Get into their live and their faces and when you get a chance, visit their teacher before the school year begins. You got an opportunity to really give your child a gift that will last a lifetime and serve them well - a good education.
Or you could abandon your little wolves to the snake pit that can be Junior and Senior High School and see how that works out. Not a judgement, just an observation.
And to the students. No excuses. Do the work. Just try to do the work no matter how stupid or pointless you feel it is. Treat it like a game that you can ace. You can ace it because you have had a lot of practice at this school thing. Good grades will give you more freedom with your parents and more chances to mess up with other things. Good grades you can shove in someone's face if they doubt your effort or intelligence Do more work in class so you have less to do on your free time. Don't waste your time with pointless shit. Now is a time you can re-invent yourself. Try not to be bitter though I know how good it feels. Be the smartest kid in the room. How? Figure it out yourself how to do that, Braniac. And don't be a dick to someone else just because you can be.
Okay. End of lecture. Enjoy your summer.
Former Edmonton Oiler Dave Semenko Passes Away At Age 59
Sad day. I was there for their great run in the eighties. and Dave was a big part of that. He kept all the other players from messing with Gretsky and gave him the second he needed to find a player like Kuri to pass to and generate goals. The Great One also avoided the concussions that have hurt players like Crosby and Lemieux because Semenko was there to keep the goons from hurting him extending Wayne's career by at least five years. Dave was a great skater which people forget and could more than hold his own against anyone in a fight or in the corners. And he scored more goals than a goon like him ever was expected to score. He was also a great guy off the ice as well so we all mourn his passing here in Alberta.
The Golden Voyage Has Much To Teach Us
"Your Majesty, Are you not the true and rightful successor to the throne of Marabia? And has not Allah, delivered this into my hands from the wonderous waters waters of the Fountain of Destiny itself, to rest upon your head."
I hear a lot of bad talk about Muslims these days. Well SINBAD was a Muslim and I will be damned if I will let you say one bad word against him. Trust in Allah. But tie up your camel!

It's Medical Science
"Malignant narcissism is a psychological syndrome comprising an extreme mix of narcissism, antisocial personality disorder, aggression, and sadism. Often grandiose, and always ready to raise hostility levels, the malignant narcissist undermines organizations in which they are involved, and dehumanizes the people with whom they associate.
Malignant narcissism is a hypothetical, experimental diagnostic category. Narcissistic personality disorder is found in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR), while malignant narcissism is not. As a hypothetical syndrome, malignant narcissism could include aspects of narcissistic personality disorder as well as paranoia. The importance of malignant narcissism and of projection as a defense mechanism has been confirmed in paranoia, as well as "the patient's vulnerability to malignant narcissistic regression"'
Inhumans Trailer
I know it looks all 'Game of Thrones ish" I like the look of this one. Anson Mount gets a lifetime pass from me for his role of Brother Cullen Bohannon in Hell On Wheels. Having to play Black Bolt isn't easy because he can't speak lest he release sound waves with devastating results. You see in the trailer how much damage just a gust of air does. If he cut loose he could destroy entire planet and he knows this so he can't communicate vocally in anyway. In the comics he uses hand signals. I assume he snows American Sign Language. But the best part of the trailer is LOCKJAW of course. The greatest weapon the team has. I will say it again - PET AVENGERS is the comic for people who don't usually like comics but like the Avengers. It should be an animated movie because it involves Thanos and the Infinity Stones and would be a nice tie-in and a source of fresh action figures. I would buy them. My one complaint comes from the fact that I have yet to see Medusa's hair in action. It's not the Inhumans without her tossing a room full of attackers with just her beautiful red headed locks. You got Lockjaw right so you need to get this right as well. All the parts have to be there or what is the point. For Jack Kirby their creator. Do it for Jack.
New Trailer For Jumanji
First let me say that I find the central plot point that these are avatars in a game to be a brilliant storytelling idea. It allows for some great comedy situations and the actors they picked for those roles seem perfect now that I have seen the trailer. The first Jumanji is one of my all time favorites and this one looks to be worthy of it's name. I dig it and want to see this movie NOW.
