The Rocketeer's (Bill Campbell) Bullet-Hit Helmet

 

THE ROCKETEER (1991)

 

The Rocketeer’s (Bill Campbell) bullet-hit helmet from Joe Johnston’s period superhero film The Rocketeer. Cliff Secord’s Rocketeer helmet displayed bullet damage during the climactic zeppelin sequence .

Created by DesignSetters Corporation, the helmet is made of Alumilite resin and features tinted eye lenses, a quilted helmet liner and a leather chinstrap within. An arrangement of metal nuts — which Campbell was not particularly fond of during filming — holds the helmet’s eye lenses in place. The helmet is primed with grey automotive lacquer, and spray painted with gold and brass paint. Distressed to appear well worn, with a bullet dent above the left eye that continues onto the stabiliser fin .

Accompanying this lot is a letter of authenticity from the DesignSetters model shop supervisor, Michael Stuart. The helmet shows minor wear due to production use, but remains in very fine condition. Dimensions: 46 cm x 20 cm x 30 cm (18” x 8” x 12”)
