Invincible

From the mind of Robert Kirkman, the creator of the Walking Dead comes the animated series based on his other great comic book creation, INVINCIBLE. Invincible burst onto the scene more than a decade ago and never stopped being one of the best comic books on the shelves. At once fresh and old school, it is full of fantastic characters that explore the superhero trope in a fresh and thrilling and VIOLENT way. It's also very accessible especially if you don't like all that complicated continuity of the MCU or the DCU. It's your typical 'teen boy gets his first superpowers' and his life gets crazy after that tale that you haven't seen a thousand times before. I found it fresh and interesting like the source material.

They have replicated the character designs and color directly from the comics here and that kind of attention to detail and bright colors are what made the comic such a hit month after month. Everything looks bright and sunny and then heads start exploding or being exploded.

The voice actors are also quality known performers like J.K. Simmons as Omniman. Kirkman has a reputation for quality storytelling and that always attracts the best.

Make no mistake. This is not a kid's show but after the first hour I challenge you to stop watching there. I have the first four episodes and I think this will be how I spend my Sunday. No spoilers here. Just give this one a chance.

Character designs right out of the comic.

There is even a demon detective. No shit.

I am very pleased to find that the translation from comic to cartoon is nearly perfect in this case. It's the comic book brought to life in a way that is rare for any property in any medium were a translation of the source material is made. Things are always changed after they are run through committee. Nothing survives unscathed, except for here. From the ground floor up this is Kirkman's vision all the way and that is always a good thing.

It DOES look good (and gory and violent) like you say. I'm adding it to my "must watch list." I hope it subverts predictable superhero tropes. There's no indication of that in the trailer, but I'll take your word for it that it treats the tropes in a fresh way.

But first, I still have to watch the second season of "The Mandalorian" plus "The Boys" series.

It has a major twist that you will not see coming. The Boys is also very good but very violent like a realistic superhero should should be.

It looks just like the comic, Invincible which has had the same artist and writer for it's entire run.
