Peacemaker

With a flick of his writing pen James Gunn brought the once dead Peacemaker (John Cena) back to life after his Suicide Squad film so that we could get a very fun eight episode season that was one of the most best things I saw this year. Cena is the perfected casting for an over the top character like the Peacemaker who is about as homicidal as a single person can be. In fact it's his mantra to kill as many people as necessary to bring about World Peace that guarantees a very high body count, something Gunn doesn't shy away from.

Cena has developed into the kind of actor who can show his full range with the Peacemaker. He is a very good comic and has great timing - something that other wrestlers turned actors like Dave Batista seem to possess.

One of the most fun parts of the season was all the side conversations he and his crew have about everything from Batman's lame villains to Peacemaker having no real rouges gallery and weather or not the rumors of Aquaman having sex with fish. Anything DCU or pop culture is fair game. A strong soundtrack also adds to a strong foundation here.

In fact for a guy who kills a lot of people he shouldn't have so much ennui about the thing that he does best. It was fun to watch his grow into a person who can make friends and keep them without getting themselves killed just for working for him. It was the Peacemaker's growth as a person and the friendship he makes with his team that was the most interesting thing for me. He's still a murderous dickhead but I think I love him because of those reasons after season one.

95% was the critics score from Rotten Tomatoes and 88% from the audience. The entire series is worth it for the final five minutes. It might be the greatest bit of TV stunt casting of all time.

John Cena's still in solid form in Peacemaker, leading a bloody good time that gives writer-director James Gunn full permission to let his freak flag fly.

I was so confused when it was announced... "why are they giving that tool a series?" pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it turned out!
