I Don't Celebrate Christmas

But still people who love me feel the need to give me a gift despite all my protestations. My Mother, who knows NOTHING about Star Wars got me a great gift.. In fact I doubt she knows that the film is even set in space but she found the PERFECT The Force Awakens item for my collection. She said she wanted to get me an action figure but she had no idea the one I wanted. That is a good thing as I have made a conscious choice NOT to have any Star Wars toys in my collection. Everyone and their dog's dog has them MIP. I do like a couple from the latest movie so I might have to bend this edict. But the BB8 metal storage box is PERFECT. I have a lot of smaller cool items that need a place to be stored once I gather them together. I love cool pop cultural lunch boxes and other such containers so this is a gift I can make real use of.

Then comes this fantastic pillow from my friend Debra. If you comment regular you know that Debra never misses a day or a chance to throw me a bone and drop a comment onto a post or three or five a day. I live an hour from her but we have never met. I don't know what she looks like. She could come up behind me in the mall and stab me with a sharpened spoon and knowing that make me appreciate her friendship and kindness all the more.

You all know I loves me some Krampus and one can NEVER have enough Krampus in one's life. His shenanigans keep me sane at this time of year. Thank you Debra for knowing me well enough to know how totally jazzed I would be about this pillow.

I should also let you know that the pillow is made by artist Lynne of Insomniac's Attic. I hope Debra doesn't mind but I scanned her note so that you could read the great story of how the pillow found itself to me. Thank you again my dear friend. The best gifts are the ones that show that you understand the receiver at his most basic level and in that way Debra succeeded 100 %.

Ha ha, glad you like it, Cal! And I would never sneak up behind you in the mall and stab you with a sharpened spoon. I would use a candy cane shank like the one you posted on your blog earlier this month.

Last night My Rare One and I watched the CBC's Murdoch Mysteries xmas special that we had DVRed from earlier this week. Not only did Peter Mansbridge have a cameo, but the whole plot turned on KRAMPUS! It was pretty good actually.

Krampus should have been bigger than Clause. That pillow is just the kind of thing I would decorate my own place with and it has a great spot now in the beloved collection of cool. My Mother looked at it and said, 'You and this Black Peter, what is it with you and Black Peter?' He was always refered to that where we lived in Germany.

I'm glad you like the pillow, Cal - but I have to clear up the misconception that I silk-screened it myself! I bought the screened image from a guy on Etsy and I only sewed the pillow part, so I'll probably have to relinquish the title of artist you so kindly bestowed upon me. Seamstress at best, I'm afraid. I've heard of Black Peter before (probably from the Swiss relatives) but I didn't realize he's the same thing as Krampus! How cool! :D

Cool gifts. I hope you had a, er... great Friday. And here's to an awesome 2016!

I.A. - either way you were part of the magic that brought this cool pillow to me. I have always told the story of Krampus/Black Peter to my friends and no one ever believed me until the past decade or so when the internet has made Krampus Night world famous.
