Hawkeye

I am so happy to finally have some appointment TV back in my life. Star Trek Discovery started last week but Hawkeye is the one I was really waiting for. I love having a weekly show from the Marvel Universe to consume and look forward to even though this one is only six episodes and they started us with the first two which is rare.

Our story is set two years after Endgame and we find Clint and his family on their way to New York City for the 'best Christmas ever'. From the beginning I was pleased to see a character I have gotten to know from all those Avengers movies still doing his thing. I love that a character's story is never done in the MCU unless he/she dies, and even then there are still good stories to wring out of these heroes.

Rogers the Musical lives up to the hype.

Hailee Steinfeld is Kate Bishop, a rich girl living with her rich mother who has her own idea of how to use her wealth. She is an accomplished archer and martial artist so what else could she want to be but a hero like Hawkeye, especially when she meets him by chance after coming across his Ronan armor. Hailee is great in everything she does and this is no exception. I also enjoyed how they incorporated her comic book art and colors into the opening titles because her recent miniseries is one of the best titles in the recent decade.

Hawkeye starts slowly, but the street-level action is a refreshing change of pace for the MCU -- and the chemistry between its leads sparkles even when the plot lags.

I just finished watching the first 2 episodes. Got a big kick out of that gawdawful "Rogers: The Musical" and the LARP scene! Otherwise, it's a bit underwhelming so far as a series, but it may pick up as it goes along. I think that's why they released the first two episodes together, to give a sense of potential for the series that otherwise might have been lacking if only the first episode was available.

I hope it does pick up now that all the pieces are set.
