First of all I have to see 'Warrior' now if Nick Nolte got a nomination. Happy to see Melissa McCarthy get her nod for the great comedic work she did in 'Bridesmaids'. It means there will be attention to the fact that comedy should really have it's own category. If animated features get an Oscar then comedies should also. Arguably, a good comedy is often the most difficult kind of movie to get right.
How about an 'ensemble cast' Oscar. Both 'Bridesmaids' and 'The Help' had casts that were nearly perfect in the story they were telling. I am not a fan of Kristen Whig but with all those other great women around her she was great.
Who got cheated?
Michael Fassbender – 'Shame'
Woody Harrelson – 'Rampart'
Kirsten Dunst – 'Melancholia'
Elizabeth Olsen – 'Martha Marcy May Marlene'
What do you think?

My uneducated guess:
Best Picture: The Descendants
Directing: Michel Hazanavicius
Actor: George Clooney
Actress: Michelle Williams
Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer
Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer
Animated Feature Film: A Cat in Paris
Really want to see "The Artist", but its not playing around here. Very typical of the big Oscar movies.
While I haven't seen "Extremely Loud" I want Max Van Sydow to win, just so we can say that Ming the Merciless has an Oscar.
Rango would be my pick for Best Animated Picture, based on the level of detail and design but I still need to see Kung Fu Panda 2. Its weird not seeing a Disney/Pixar title on the nomination list for once.
Don't worry about Michael Fassbender Kal. This year was just him stretching his acting chops. Within the next few years he's going to land roles that will knock us all over and then some.
I usually like to see who gets art direction, makeup and Effects. I think "Planet of the Apes" is a shoe-in for that last one.
Speaking of effects, how long do you think it will be before a genius like Andy Serkis gets his due. They can do all the digital reworking they want but you can't beat a real live actors motions and expressions when you are creating a totally digital character like Caesar.
There you go Cal - Serkis was robbed! And considering some of the other films nominated for Best Picture, Apes was robbed as well.
Not excited about the list this year, other than Rango for Best Animated Film.
