I Will Miss Silencing The Butter Lamb This Easter

Thanks, trump.

It's a Ukrainian thing. Part of the Easter Basket that gets blessed. Then you eat him and watch his cold dead eyes fade to blackness...on a freshly baked roll. It's a beautiful tradition.

Every year the Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts offers a butter lamb making workshop (one afternoon about 3 weeks before Easter). I've never managed to make it to one yet, and didn't again this year for obvious reasons, but SOME DAY I'll get there and make my very own butter lamb! Apparently all you need is a pound of butter and a garlic press.

I tried one year but my lamp looked like an abused stick of butter. So now I get one from people who know what they are doing. It also makes the butter lamb more real to me which makes me feel even happier when I take his head for my mashed potatoes.
