Red hair is the rarest hair colour in the world. It’s caused by a gene mutation know as MC1R, and it only affects about one per cent of the world’s population. This gene mutation can also affect a person’s tolerance to pain, sunlight, and change the hair’s ability to turn grey.

Brian Dowling is a Berlin-based photographer who has long been fascinated by the charms of redheads. He’s also hoping to tackle the harsh bullying redheads often face by showing the world just how beautiful those with the MC1R mutation can be.
