Favorite Costumes In Comic Books - Number One - Spider-Man

There really couldn't have been any other choice for number one.

Red & Blue

…And for others, you really can’t get better than the original. Pity the poor artists over the years who have had to slave over intricate series of webs and lines, but when it comes down to it, we can’t see the color red next to the color blue without thinking of Spider-Man. It may be for just the reason we mentioned above, but Steve Ditko’s design is somehow endlessly complicated, and ridiculously simple at the same time. Every artist has their own take on Spider-Man: some with armpit webs, some not; some with expressive eyes, some not. But the costume expressed everything that’s great about Spider-Man, and unique about his character right up front. For that, it’s not just the best Spider-Man costume, it’s one of the best costume designs of all time.

The most licenced properties of all the Marvel characters, there are thousands of products bearing the Spider-Man colors. Both boys and girls are attracted by the strong look.

Animated or live action, the costume only accentuates the amazing movements of the character.

Believe it or not, for a costume that seemed so perfect, there have been many variations over the decades of Spider-Man comics. Some were ridiculous and others (like the black Venom costume) changed the game and became iconic looks in themselves.

My Favorite Costume Variations

Spider-Man 2099

Spider-Man Noir

Spider-Man Magnaverse

Spider-Man Parkour

My Least Favorite Variations

The Scarlet Spider

I like the impact webbing but the ripped sweatshirt is just stupid

Steel Spider

Created in co-operation with Tony Stark, the addition of all the extra tech just slowed Peter down and deprived him of what makes him great - maneuverability.

i enjoyed the spider-homage to a great costume... i really enjoyed the "noir" version.

Spider-Man is a costume that shouldn't work but for whatever reason does. Although there is debate to this day as to who designed the look as both Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko lay claim to the iconic look.

I'm with you on the Scarlet Spider, the whole "Civvie Spandex" deal was one of the many dark elements of the '90s, and those sharp pointy eyes didn't do him any favors.

I think the Steel Spider's look is okay, but the robot legs are just too much.

The villain in the last illustration looks like Ted Danson with a bad case of raccoon eyes.

Um, when you think of red and blue, you think of the genuine original: Superman.
