This Just Doesn't Look Safe

A whole lot of things have to go right for this thing to stay in the air and work as intended. Such a waste of resources and the technology to basically make a ladder for a soldier, a single soldier to stand on. You can build this but why not a jet pack? The Rocketeer is a solid concept if you want a flying soldier.

Hiller VZ-1 Pawnee

The Pawnee was designed in the mid to late 1950’s for the U.S Army as an aerial scout and shooting platform. It was flown by an infantryman shifting his bodyweight, similar to the usage of a segway, but without the benefit of digital gyroscopes.

the Army did not like it because there was no defense for the solider

Plus, you'd need something with a little more firepower than an M1 carbine. All in all, with the weight shifting thing, a recipe for disaster.
