Half Way Through The Umbrella Academy

This show lived up to the glory that is the first six issue comic book miniseries which I was one of the first to find and rave about. It won TWO Eisner Awards for best finite series and best limited series. All this from some emo kid with a guitar and his friend, a Spanish artist with NOTHING to his credit before he started illustrating this story with a flair that matched all the greats who ever came before him. I love it so much. I have seen online where people claim that there is nothing original about The Umbrella Academy and their were not suprised for one second. To that of course I say 'bullshit'. This is superheroics for those who are no heroes because they wanted to be. They are heroes because they were FORCED to be. And they were forced to be a family with other kids who were not related to them. No way a person grows up sane in that environment.

The Umbrella Academy is an American comic book series created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. The first six-issue limited series, The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite, was released by Dark Horse Comics, between September 19, 2007, and February 20, 2008. It won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

Devotees of boom-biff superhero capers may consider the uncanniness distracting. Yet, beneath the quirky veneer, The Umbrella Academy is a devastating rumination on how childhood scars can continue to define us as adults. It is also a satisfyingly murky thriller that demonstrates genuine innovation in its occasional action scenes (such as a split-screen shoot-out in a department store soundtracked to Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”). As we count down to the latest Avengers bombast-fest, The Umbrella Academy is a reminder caped crusader adaptations can be delightful and insightful along with punch-drunk and deafening. It’s as bonkers as anything – but a brolly good show to boot.

I am glad you liked it. I am rationing my last five episodes because I can't let it go.
