When I got seriously into collecting comic books in the 80s, my folks would give me twenty dollars a week to spend at the comic store or the farmer's market comic guy. Having the money allowed me to take chances especially with new characters and the number of great mini-series that came out around that same time. This four issue Jack of Hearts series was one of my favorites basically because of the weird costume that Jack wore and how the writers tried to turn him into another member of their cosmic group of heroes.

The costume is visually spectacular. According to the comic, Jack based it on his father's love of playing cards which is as good a reason as any for costume design. He does look very much like a playing card. If anything he would catch your attention when he walked into the room. And if that didn't do it then the cosmic energy emitting from his hands would clue you in.

The '80s sure did love their shoulderpads didn't they? From business suits to superheroes, they were just everywhere.
Just a LAME outfit from Day One.
Not a real.. scarey look, if you know what I mean.
