Electric Tiki Does The Munsters

Thanks to Erik for sending this one to me. I have a soft spot for the Munsters. My Dad liked them much more than the Adams Family for some reason. I think he found Wednesday to be gloomy. Plus Fred Gwynn made him laugh because he could remember a time before he was Herman Munster. Gwynn was also great as the southern judge in My Cousin Vinny.

I thought they were made years ago.

I bet they were. I just noticed them and thought they were cool.

See, what would do without me? Be only slightly less cool thats what!

As far as the difference between the Addams and The Munsters, the Addams were just generally macabre while the Munsters were based on very distinct movie monsters. There was also the contrast in presentation. The wealthily Addams were based on a series of cartoons while their presentation wasn't all that removed from reality. Conversely the working class Munsters started in live action, but their antics were often over the top enough that it felt like the show was becoming a cartoon.

This discussion lead me to seek out original episodes on the Internet. I cam across the unaired pilot shot in color!

While the rest of the cast is different, Fred Gwynn and Al Lewis still play their respective roles. The series just wouldn't have worked without those two.
