His 'Signing' Did Seem A Bit 'Hinky' To Me

http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/11/5200050/mandela-memorial-interpreter-fake

How does something like a fake signer for the deaf even get onto a stage that huge and important? Does no one check credentials? That just makes my head want to explode it's so funny and bizarre. You humans. You never fail to amuse me. It's the only reason I let you live.

The sign language interpreter used at Nelson Mandela's memorial service yesterday in Johannesburg was a fraud who was "literally flapping his arms around," according to the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa and at least two other experts.

The man stood on stage with nearly 100 heads of state, including President Barack Obama, who all gave speeches to honor Mandela, and was actually interpreting nothing, making unintelligible signs. Bruno Druchen, the director of the South Africa's Deaf Federation, told the Associated Press that the man was "moving his hands around but there was no meaning in what he used his hands for."

Druchen's wife, Wilma Newhoudt-Druchen, a South African parliament member who is also deaf, confirmed that the man was signing nonsense.

I read that he's done this before and had a complaint lodged with the ANC. But then they hire him again!

Oh boy. That is one broken security system. All the world's leaders stood next to this guy.

It's funny to watch once you know the truth. He just keeps doing the same basic moves over and over again. It's like some sort of SNL skit.

It's an embarrassment to all the millions who cannot hear.

It is a drastic insult of the worst way. How can ALL those who claim to be so loving and caring in the world have allowed this..?

Look in the mirror, folks.

He didn't sign, he literally did an 'interpretive dance' with his arms.

The world's a stage david_b, and that was one of the worst acts I've seen for a while.
