"When he was hired by Priceline in 1997, Shatner agreed to take shares as part of his payment.
At first it looked like a bad decision as the shares fell sharply during the dot-com bust and dipped as low as $1.80 in 2000.
However, over the past decade Shatner's fortunes have turned around and the shares are now worth almost $300 each.
While Priceline has not divulged how much Shatner is paid, reports from Wall Street have put his fortune at $600m, according to The Times.
In the advertisements, which have become something of an institution in America, Shatner plays the role of the Priceline Negotiator, stopping at nothing to save customers money.
The clips often parody Shatner's own life, and his early musical career. In one advertisement, he is fired by Priceline and replaced by Leonard Nimoy, who played Mr Spock in Star Trek.
The commercials have become a hit on YouTube, particularly for Shatner's talent for self-mockery."

Legal, his 'Denny Crane' character is the best immitation of the real William Shatner that I have ever seen. I love the way that he 'gets the joke' - William Shatner NEEDS to be over the top goofy to play himself.
His interview show is interesting too. He asks questions and brings things out in people that I never would expect. Who knew that Nemoy photographs nude models?
As the Australians would say 'Good on ya mate. The man is a personal hero of mine.
