You can't live your life comparing yourself to others, Quasi. Be yourself. Spread your wings and fly, baby!

It's so easy to say that when you are beautiful.

If there was one character in literature I could relate to while growing up, it was Quasimodo. An overweight, big-eared kid with no sense of style and weird ideas, I would watch every version and in my mind I was Quasimodo and each time I would cry for him.

Except for that damned Disney shit and its tacked on happy ending. That was some of the most dishonest filmmaking I've ever seen. I didn't shed a tear during that tripe.

Oh god. What a nightmare that cartoon was. Insufferable. Truly. And I made it worse for myself by renting the Charles Laughten classic before seeing the Disney animated remake. I thought at the time that I was so sophisticated a film lover - all I did was set myself up for crushing disappointment. Cartoon Hunchbacks that sing songs really don't pull on my emotional heartstrings.
