Steve Ditko Turns 85

Unless you have been living in a cave you know that Steve Ditko was the one who drew many early adventures of Spider-Man, including his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy 15. He was responsible for Spidey's iconic look, which many believe is the best costume in all of comicdom.  Ditko also drew magnificent splash pages for Marvel's must beloved monster comics and those are what I choose to highlight here.

Like Jack Kirby, Ditko had a great way of putting the reader right into the action. Each one of these splash pages makes you want to read more and that is what makes Ditko one of the greats.

Given his reclusive nature I think Steve Ditko is the one who has been hiding in a cave.

Though there is some debate about who created Spidey's costume as Kirby and his estate still claim credit, but its uniqueness feels very Ditko.

I didn't want to talk about his life and views which are pretty bizarre though I live a pretty reclusive life myself and I have beliefs that are bizarre. I just like his stuff. Even that stuff he did for Charleton like the Question.

It takes a recluse to know another, thats why you and I can admire the craftsmanship of his work so well.
