I thought that until I saw THIS. My beloved Ahsoka Tano? Fighting against VADER her former master when he was just some punk named Anakin Skywalker. I see what they did here, those sly boots at Disney. They stopped the great Clone Wars cartoon so that they could make an ever BETTER cartoon for me to love.
‘Star Wars’ Animated Series Set for 2014 Debut
By DAVE ITZKOFF
This will be a day long remembered for fans of the animated “Star Wars” television series and the continuing saga of that long-ago, faraway galaxy. On Monday, Lucasfilm and Disney said they had started production on a new “Star Wars” show — one that will explore the period between the prequel and classic “Star Wars” trilogies and that will have its debut on the Disney Channel in fall 2014 before moving to its regular home on Disney XD.
Since Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, the studio behind “Star Wars,” was announced last year, the status of this animation franchise was somewhat uncertain. The series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which followed the young Anakin Skywalker before he fell to the dark side of the Force, had run for five seasons on the Cartoon Network, which is owned by Time Warner. And Disney was no more likely to share “Star Wars” with a rival studio than the Galactic Empire was to reveal its top-secret plans for the Death Star. (Publicly, Lucasfilm has said that it is “winding down” the “Clone Wars” series.)
But as one sun sets, another one rises: Lucasfilm and Disney said the new animated series, “Star Wars Rebels,” will take place between Episodes III and IV of the live-action movie saga. (In other words, after Darth Vader develops his breathing problems but before Luke Skywalker learns he’s the galaxy’s only hope.) The creative team on “Star Wars Rebels” includes the screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: First Class,” “Elysium”), who is writing the first episode; Dave Filoni, the supervising director of the “Clone Wars” series; and Greg Weisman, a producer of animated shows like “The Spectacular Spider-Man” and “Young Justice.”
The studios said in a news release, “‘Star Wars Rebels’ takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.”
For those of us who are not yet masters of Jedi mind tricks and were hoping for more plot information, Disney and Lucasfilm said simply, “Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.”

Now that's a show I could get behind! Clone Wars always left me cold because I knew how it all ended and it was just not going to end well for any of the characters. This however, could be much more exciting...
...or it could be complete crap. Who knows with these things? I guess we're not getting a live action TV show now, eh?
I remember they were teasing this show over the summer citing the involvement of Greg Weisman and art direction in the style of the late Ralph McQuarrie (which caused me to do this scary kind of schoolgirl squeal). With that setup I envisioned something dark were the Rebels are struggling to survive against the relentless empire sort of like the first season of the Battlestar Galactica Reboot. This upbeat voiceover doesn't suggest the tone that I was anticipating.
Since I didn't get into the Clone Wars series, I was kind of hoping for a clean break from that show so that we could have a fresh start for new viewers. Also, I know it'll break your heart, but I'm kind of tired of the Jedi by this point, and hoped that this series setting would mean we'd be done with them for a while.
This illustration of a Hoth rebel does intrigue me though. It's like we said earlier this week, somehow women become more attractive when they're wearing so many layers. Maybe its because all other distractions are gone and we can just focus on a pretty face.
I live action show with that high of a concept is really tricky to pull off so I can imagine all the tight sphinkters at Disney. After all they thought the Lone Ranger was a no-brainer.
Oh and Erik. I have noted your anti Jedi heresy in my book.
Its not so much Jedi heresy as it is lightsaber fatigue.
Will that get me a less severe punishment?
Well...
Tell you what I am gonna do for you kid. I will only write you into the book with pencil. That's all I can do.
