Mother's Day
Today is Mother's day of course and I have one of the great Moms of all time. Like my Dad always said she is ALL CLASS.
She is also a mess of contradictions - smart, street smart, caring, and generous she still can't figure out a computer mouse or remote control for the big screen T.V.
She can council people who are dying or whose loved ones are dying but took years to warm up to the cat.
Can travel the world but gets searched at security only when she travels within Canada. Osama Bin Josie.
She works out a 'Curves' 5 times a week and in the past three months has walked the nearly the million + steps it takes to navigate the Hawaiian Islands. She will be SEVENTY in July. It's why we call her the 'Iron Lady'.
Josie's Step Statistics
Steps Since: Jan 11, 2010
Total Steps Taken: 885,517
Total Days Stepping: 119
* Average Steps Per Day: 7,441
** Average km Per Day: 5.6
*** Total km Walked: 670.8
She will not watch any movie with a science fiction or fantasy theme because she can't imagine or wrap her head around how made-up it all is but reads historical fiction. She only started reading novels five years ago after my father died but now devours books at a rate of about 4 a month.
Loves 'Dancing with the Stars', 'The Bachelor', 'Survivor', 'The Amazing Race' and thinks 'Married With Children' is the funniest show that has ever been created. Ted Bundy is her favorite TV character so now she can never miss 'Modern Family' or anything Ed O'Neil ever did.
When I taught at an inner city jr high school her and I created a bag lunch program that the local firefighters took over administering when I left and now over 200 kids a day who wouldn't get a lunch, have one.
She follows the Ukrainian Orthodox religion and was instrumental in getting the funding and assisted the architect in planning and construction of St. Vladimir's Church in our town.
Despite her religious views and her age, she has made a 180 degree turn on the issues related to gay rights. She no longer has a problem with the 'fagalits' and the 'lazabeams' (her words)
How do you honor a woman like that on Mother's Day? Well you get her a lobster and make her a 'surf and turf' and realize that you would never have survived to be this age without her.
Love you Mom.

Great tribute post to the Mom of the Cave of Coolness! Happy Day to her from all of us here.
Your Mom sounds amazing, and obviously she has a son who loves her like crazy.
I use this day to remember my own mom and help my daughter make her mom feel like the amazingly special woman she is.
Your mom must be cool for her to create such a cool young guy with his own cave of coolness that I enjoy visiting. She sounds pretty special.
Happy Mother's Day, Josie girl! Keep on steppin'!
Great story and tribute. She sounds like a wonderful lady and mom!
I wish we could have been brothers so you could have been raiesed by her.
