Breaks My Heart Because I Love This Ship

The Coast Guard has just released these photos of the HMS Bounty replica sinking off the coast of North Carolina. Another casualty of Hurricane Sandy. Of the 16 crew members, 14 are still alive, one is in critical condition and unresponsive and the captain has not been found.

At least the Captain went down with the ship as he should.

The Bounty was unlucky for Captain Bligh and it was unlucky for this Captain too.

I know more about that ship and the story than I should. Bligh was a dickhead but he was a great sailor and saved the crew in the small boat they put him in by sailing over 2000 miles back to England, avoiding many cannibal islands along the way.

What a shame. Beautiful ship.

My Dad and I are currently building a scale replica of The Bounty together so this news is a real downer.

It was the first story of the sea that I ever learned about (The Bounty) and it still fascinates me to this day. I look forward to seeing your finished product Nick. Maybe they can raise it.
