Rob Leifeld Is The Devil

Is… is his head the size of his individual fists?

I’ve seen some drawings with ridiculously exaggerated musculature and physiques for reasons of the artist’s fetishes, but there’s something that is just so fundamentally flawed about this. I think it’s because the artists behind said fetish art first developed a basic understanding of anatomy, so that they could then mess around with it. That picture of Cable, up there? It shows a complete failure to understand some of the most basic principles of drawing human figures.

Silly Calvin, his head is smaller than an individual fist. So it is even worse than what you were saying.

Maybe the techno virus ran rampant and hulked out.

I would not say he is the devil but a lesser demon perhaps.

i kinda like it. Unlike myself, Rob did not have several semesters of college figure drawing, so yes his drawings kinda "look the way they look". as i developed, i began to appreciate artists work for what it was- when i let go of expectations on the work of others, i began to enjoy it more. i know guys that can draw better than i will ever be able to, yet they can't seem to get it together, make a cohesive body of work, and do something with their talent. i also know so some artists that make Liefeld look like Rembrandt, and they enjoy great success. that painting i made of you? several people were not impressed- one artist said it just wasn't very good. so there ya go: myself, an artist that has sold well over half his catalogue from the last 15 years, "isn't very good".

Not impressed with that painting of ME? OF ME??? Well that is just kooky talk. Any piece that shows off my magnificence should be in a museum somewhere. Stupid poor taste of the idiot masses.

I've read people defend Liefeld mostly because they were kids when his "art" came out in the 90s and those people just never learned any better along with Liefeld.
Also they used "he made a ton of money" and "lets see "you do better" lines.
You never know, in the future Liefeld maybe considered an "outsider" art genius like Henry Darger or something.

Look, you work in comics, you have to draw a ton of pictures. It's only natural that some of them will suck. Every comic artist has had their share of stinkers. If you have to meet a deadline and a lot is riding on you making the deadline then sometimes "good enough" will just have to do. Unfortunately, sometimes "not good enough" will just have to do as well. I will not fault an artist for putting out an occasional stinker.

Leifild, however, does seem to have more than his fair share, and, unlike other artists, seems to think his stinkers are just as good as anything else.

Leifeld just never got better after all these years. His brain and skills are trapped in the 90s. What artist do you know that get's WORSE over time. I could see if he had a stroke or something and that hurt his drawing ability but that is not the case. Leifeld just doesn't care. It's so frustrating to me that he gets work and someone ten times as talented get shut out.

I think he just ran out of paper at the top and made the head smaller so it would all fit. his drawings indicate that he doesn't sketch things out beforehand, he just starts doodling and expands upon it and goes back and adds guns or whatnot later. I bet he started on the massive shoulder pads and then when he got to the head, he said, "I am not going to start over now!"

I think you are onto something Budd.
