An Open Letter To All Those Who Have Stepped Inside The Cave Of Cool

I have something to say to you bitches and remember that I use the term 'bitches' with the greatest respect. If you are one of MY bitches that means I can be straight with you. I can tell you the truth as I see it...and like Wayne Brady, I can choke a bitch if I need too. Not that I ever would but you need to know it's an OPTION.

You bitches have been getting some premium blog as of late. Not that I never fail to deliver with the quality and variety everyday, I have just been on FIRE lately. It could all be the result of my ever increasing madness but either way you, my BITCHES, have benefitted. You have laughed and cried WITH ME. Together we have nodded in agreement at the same thing. I feel like we have made a connection.

Now I don't ask for anything for Christmas because I hate Christmas and would love to see a year without it. That is another reason I would ride your spaceship to Mars and back for 3 years of my life. That is three years of no Christmas ads or commercials and tinsel (which I find very distracting) and the love of loved ones - which in only the rarest of cases is always bullshit.

But IF you Do want to reward me this holiday season you can do so by telling me how you enjoy what I do here. It's my creation. It's my work of art. It's my contribution to human civilization and I take it seriously. I know I should be more famous and rewarded for my singular brilliance but that is the MAN'S fault and he will have to deal with me one day on MY terms so I can get past HIM keeping me down.

Please share the love. It will be the coolest thing you can do for a guy who had a pretty great 2013 and hopes to rule the world before 2014.

And tell me truth, wouldn't you all be better off is THAT kind of Kal controlled world?

LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!

I enjoy your great blog good Sir Kal.....
We do the "Crypt" as an "outlet" for our "madness"... and to share with others the things that we enjoy.... Keep up the Great work....

The great ones are never truly appreciated in their own lifetimes. Look at that poor Vincent van Gogh. At least you still have both ears.

Well this is the first sight I go to in my feed reader, so I guess that qualifies me as your bitch alright.

I suppose your distain for the seasonal holiday means that I can scratch you off of my Christmas card mailing list (The cat and I posed in our matching sweaters and everything! Or rather I posed, and he pretended not to be there)

I've been coming here since Michael May posted a link to your blog back in 2009-2010 somewhere around there.

I keep coming back for the variety of unique pictures. Art, illustrations and other odd images. You gather the best from around the web and present it all in one place! You're more of a cornucopia of cool than a cave.

Also, I can always count on you to acknowledge my comments and more often than not reply to them. I doubt I'm anywhere near your weight class as far as social isolation goes, but I do spend a lot of time working from my desk alone, and its confronting to know that at least one person out there is paying attention to what I do.

If not for you, my blog wouldn't get half the traffic it does. Plus you introduced me to the League of Extraordinary Bloggers, which got me that gig illustrating for the Cool and Collected magazine and landed the likes of Miss M and the Goodwill Geek as loyal viewers of my work as well. Its a small but budding community of cool.

Thanks for all your inspiration. I hope to return on your generous investment in feeding my imagination in the upcoming year!

It's the few fans that find the time to interact with you that make it worth all the work. I am just feeling all needy and greedy for acclaim I may not truly deserve. Then I really would just be a cat wondering why he is wearing a sock.

I enjoy your blog on a daily basis, kal. You've made me remember so many great things from my childhood all the while showing me amazing new art, cosplay and pop culture. Not to mention the fact that you are proof that there are still real people with substance out there, not just the plastics who seem to be controlling every aspect of media. Keep up the great work and please remember that even though we don't always say it, we all appreciate all the love you put into your art. Thank you, brother.

Howdy Cal. I haven't commented too much on here (or most anywhere) as much as I'd like, but I've always enjoyed your work on this incredible blog. Much love.

As I said on my blog just the other day there are times when I think you are single-handedly keeping the interwebz going with the volume of your output.

I follow your work daily, but sometimes - when I read it on my iPod - am not in a position to comment (there's some technical SNAFU that makes the comments I've tried to post simply vanish in the ether).

You have long been one of my inspirations in the blogosphere - there have been a number of occasions where I've been struggling to grasp a blog topic for HeroPress and so I've stepped back and thought: "How would Cal tackle this?"

Keep standing up to THE MAN and the octopodes!

Why I love and enjoy your blog?
Where else can I go to escape this reality and go to an alternate one. Sometimes when I am depressed I come here and check out your blizzards and pics of red headed beauties or the occassional movie review or images of BatGirl or Selena and be cheered up with one visit? I can't. In order to overcome my darker or sour moods I usually threw in some old Bugs Bunny cartoons and in about a half hour I'd be right as rain mentally...but now I can come to the cave and be amused and cheered up for the same effect. Being called a BITCH.... I find to be a laudible affectation and wear it proud. You have a beautiful mind Calvin...don't stop preaching ...we hear what you are saying!!!

As long as you don't think American opinions don't count, I'd like to say that I enjoy your blog immensely. It's pleasing to the eye both in terms of the artwork and the text. Again, please accept my humble admiration, with a small request that you remember that not all US citizens are jingoistic turds.

P.S. it seems your interview the other day went well. Glad to hear it! Please give us an update in that realm.

Yes, sir Cal, I loves me some Cave of Cool! Not only ONE of the best blogs on the interwebs but THE best blog on the interwebs. It's like a multilevel megadungeon with treasures laid everywhere requiring multiple forays to gather all the precious gems and nary a goblin to be found! Live long and post !

My stars. You gentlemen will make me blush.

That was some gorgeous commenting there. I soak it all up my sister and brothers like biscuits and gravy.

Of course I don't think all Americans are undereducated gun toting maniacs. That is like ten percent. Your Bible Thumping Hillbilly population who will never get beyond their guns and gods and who are easy to lead than pigs to the trough. They have my ire and my contempt because they have the power to stop progress for awhile and they are just annoying stupid fucktarts. I hate their stupid beliefs and their ignorance and their made up religions. Take your comfort were ye may but don't try to use your faith to justify the evils that you do. I have no tolerance for that. That's a lifetime of Marvel comics for ya. I don't praise the good things you do enough because it's so hard these days for those stories to seep past the garbage of Kardashians and Congress.

I have been visiting your cave pretty much twice daily for about a year now. Very rarely do I poke my head out to comment (that's just me)but I have found some wonderful stuff here that I know I would not find anywhere else on my own steam. The picture of Han Solo riding Swift Wind is my FB profile pic and am still very pleased with it. It almost gets as many comments as my magnificant moustache. (if I do say so myself). I just wanted to say thanks before I sneak back off in to the shadows. Cheers again big man. Mucho love.

You realize that on that ship to Mars, they would more than likely be pumping tons of ads for various things (including Christmas) into your eye holes while you traveled, right? I'm sure they're not just going to cryogenically freeze you (like Thundercats or Aliens) until you get there....

Kal said...

No wake. I will be awake the whole time. They will have to sedate me to get me to sleep. I can do all this that I do now from SPACE. Just me and the cat and my shows and some Pepsi, some garlic stuffed onions and I am good.

I will get the data and do a few laps around mars then it's back home for the fame and all the punch and pie I want for life.

That's a life plan right there.

Kal said...

Sorry, garlic stuffed olives. Jeez. That won't look good on my application for space travel.

I have been reading your blog for two years now and I look forward to it every day. It's wonderful. Thank you for your funny, insightful posts and sharing a small bit of yourself with all of us here in the neverworld. Have a great Christmas.
