Today We Bury A Great Canadian

Jack Layton, leader of Canada'a far left New Democratic Party died this week after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was a tireless champion of the Canadian people and had a unique ability to bring people together, especially those who had vast political differences. Our political process is weaker without him but his dedication to his nation will inspire Canadians for decades to come. He was always a Canadian before he was a politician and for that he will always have my respect and be the model of what I look for in an enlightened political leader.

I don't know anything about Jack Layton, but I do know I like the NDP party. He sounds like a good man.

I live in northern New England and get three Canadian television stations. Always loved Layton's (and to be honest most Canadian politicians) willingness to appear on shows like The Mercer Report and 22 Minutes while poking fun at themselves. You folks lost a good one...

We watched the funeral on CBC. A lovely farewell for Jack.

I firmly believe that Layton was instrumental in keeping Canada from devolving into the kind of politics where NOTHING gets done like in the US. He kept all the players honest because he was a fair negotiator who saw the bigger picture beyond petty desires for political power.

Even in the heart of Conservative Alberta, the Calgary Tower was lit up in orange for him.

I'll miss him very much.

So sad.
How come it's the evil ones that live forever?
