Sad News

One of the great voices in show business speaks no more. I just watched the 35th anniversary version of Battlestar Galactica and you can't do better than his narration at the start of that film. This is another one that I have committed to memory.

First time I heard about the Toltecs - the precursors to the Mayans. Got major props from my MesoAmerican Civilizations prof when I mentioned them. I then said that the Olmecs were an even older than the Toltecs. Then he told me to slow my roll because it was only the FIRST DAY of class.

"There are those who believe... that life here... began out there. Far across the universe. With tribes of humans... who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians... or the Toltecs... or the Mayans... that they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids... or the lost civilizations of Lemuria... or Atlantis... Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man... who even now fight to survive... far, far away amongst the stars..."

I bet you can all hear his voice when you read those words. I have been looking for a video clip that shows this but I can't find it. I need someone to get me that clip who knows how to pull it from the movie.

Loved The Avengers. Sad to see him go, but he lived a good, long life.
Very lucky man.

For me, he will always be dapper John Steed of The Avengers. I loved that show when I was a kid. I was just reading on The Advocate website that he was raised by lesbian parents. His mother left his father for a wealthy lesbian aristocrat who saw that he received the best education possible at Eton and beyond.

That is cool. I loved the Avengers too. It was the only show that we could get in English on german tv in the 70s. It was a huge hit there as well. Love that Diana Rigg. Meow that woman could work a catsuit. And Steed was the ultimate gentleman spy. I would have liked to see James Bond work with him. I know he was in View to a Kll but he wasn't Steed.
