When Did George Bush Become Such A Cool Guy?

I hated him for years but post-President, Bush II has been a delight. Who knew? And the term 'lanky African brother' just seems like something he would slip into conversation.

It's true that everything is relative. Bush was a no-nothing knee-jerk right-wing asshole but now he's a tolerant, centrist genius statesman by comparison to Trump. Who'd have ever thought we'd see this day?

Of course, I meant "know-nothing." Hoist on my own petard, I guess.

I always thought he was a good guy with a generally good heart who shouldn't have been president and definitely shouldn't have been president during 9/11. Post presidentially he's been awesome.

I think the same about him and I hate that about myself. Chaney was clearly the evil heart of that administration.

I have to agree with all of the above. I hated him in office, but it's like that old Greek fable about being careful what you wish for when you wish the current evil king would die, his successor could be much worse! I did always think he was a bit of a dupe for his evil cohorts in the White House and that it was Chaney and Rumsfeld who were the architects of the worst that transpired. That and the never ending requirement that Republican presidents MUST kowtow and genuflect to the small but powerful group of ultra-conservatives and the religious right.

Right now, to me, he brings to mind Jimmy Carter. A disaster as a President, but a man who could make his post-Presidency a legacy to be extremely proud of and for which he will be much better and more fondly remembered.
