Golden Voyage Of Sinbad

On tonight on TCM they continue their tribute to RAY HARRYHAUSEN with 'Jason and the Argonauts', 'Clash of the Titans' and 'Golden Voyage of Sinbad'. That is some sweet triple feature action you don't want to be missing.

How many thousands of hours did that dear man spend with those little models, first designing each one and then imbueing them all with such wondrous (if primitive) life.
Like I said last week on your "It Came From Beneath the Sea" post, he's one of the artists I feel the deepest affection for.
If there's not a really cool Ray Harryhausan diorama display in the Smithsonian showing all his greatest models, well, somebody should be fired.

I'm actually REALLY looking forward to the new Clash of The Titans coming out next week.
Tell me you're going too and I *might* let you be my new internet boyfriend...

He is a true genius VM. I got the TV on in front of me now and have been dazzled all night. Just like when I was a kid and thought I was the only one who knew about these movies. GV of Sinbad is one of my all time favs.

Ah, but I'm older than you, and to me the big one was "7th Voyage of Sinbad," not "Golden Voyage." Don't get me wrong, "Golden" had even better effects and is probably a better movie, but "7th Voyage" was another really super-iconic black n white TV monster movie from when I was like 5 or 6 or so.
Still now whenever I imagine a dragon I imagine them wearing an iron collar, and I always always always hate Cyclopses. I think all through the 70s and 80s I had an instictive suspicion of Scott Summers, all due to Harryhausen's 7th Voyage.
I love that collage you used of Ray with his different creations, by the way.

But - HEY, DUDE, seriously, "CLASS of the Titans??"
that was either really careless or almost syncophanticly Freudian.

You are like my secret proofreader today.

My love for 'Golden' comes from the awesome Saturday matinees on the base when we lived in Europe. Five hours worth - cartoons, newreels, b movie, a movie, trailers. Hot dogs and pop and popcorn and chocolate bar all for 5 marks. They showed 'Golden' every couple of months and we never missed it.

I do love 7th too though. Ray never let you down no matter what he did. I often enjoy his effects more than the sloppy CGI that syfi does. One of those cases where a guy found a job doing what he really loved and his is one of the immortals for it.
