I suspect this ended very badly for the inventor/test pilot and set back the development of jet pack technology for decades. Any steampunk character I create will look like the Cal represented in my headed (thanks again M.D.) with a rocket pack for getting up and retractable wings for gliding down.

Well a nice cup of tea fixes so many of life's little annoyances and problems. Post body part pick-up detail certainly qualifies.
